Historical source for these knee cops?

See picture. I believe based on the maker that they are "real" but am stymied at finding a period source for them. I've gone through a few sources but without finding much. Anybody seen this before?

Re: To Restore a Neglected Sword

Pix would help. For starters, use course steel wool to get any loose rust off. From there one can either more aggressively sand with varying grits of sandpaper and/or use ScotchBrite wheels and similar to polish.

With good pix I could give you more useful advice.

P2100065-cropped-1.jpg P2100060-1.jpg Another sword I hilted up last year, built on an Arms & Armor 12th century sword into a more 13th century type. I replaced the crossguard with one I made myself, and reworked the grip. The pommel is mostly the same, but I deepened the hollows on either side of ...

Placed my order - thanks for the discount!

I actually tried to place a pre-publication order but (fortunately) since the book was not available the system in question didn't let me place the order at all.

You should be able to buy loose brass rings with rivets, etc. and DIY. I think Ice Falcon has that in stock (though I've not checked recently).

Arms & Armor pieces sold through Museum Replicas

This thread is an offshoot from a discussion between Mark Millman and myself regarding an OOP dagger that he was looking for in the Classifieds ( http://forums.armourarchive.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=188543 ) but branched off into some particulars on Museum Replicas and certain Arms & Armor stu...

Re: Wanted: MRL 16th Century Cut and Thrust Parrying Dagger

Thanks for the link to the Hank Reinhardt collection - I have gone to it in the past but didn't realize this dagger was a part of it! Too bad he didn't post dimensions. However, using the pictures of Hank's original, the A&A version, and the DT/MRL version from catalog No. 21, I made an interesting ...

Re: Wanted: MRL 16th Century Cut and Thrust Parrying Dagger

BTW, I've had an interest in the sword that was offered in this set for quite a long time now. Unfortunately, it never seems to come available. There was an eBay auction probably ~10 or so years ago that featured one, but it turned out to be a Windlass copy made after that company took over MRL. In ...

Re: Wanted: MRL 16th Century Cut and Thrust Parrying Dagger

Very interesting - I didn't realize they were that different, though that's more from not paying attention. Bruce's account, though, isn't quite correct. It's not false, but it misses some nuance. A&A were the first to come out with this dagger, which they made from "molds taken from the original". ...

Re: German sallet for sale

The German Sallet and bevor arrived yesterday in excellent condition. It is absolutely beautiful! The two pieces are perfectly matched in both the crisp workmanship and decoration. The mating of both the visor to the helmet and lame of the bevor is so well done that it is difficult to insert a piec...

Re: Some new tools, and a new project - hourglass gauntlets

Can you find other uses for the brass sheet to mitigate the waste? Esp. since no extant gauntlets are built this way. Historical accuracy, given how perfect every other detail is on this project, would be my ultimate deciding factor. Alternatively, perhaps shop around for some brass stock that is mo...

Re: Use of butted maille in the medieval period

The Kirkburn Burial has a butted mail shirt. But other then that one find, butted links are decorative an made from some copper alloy. Actually Kirkburn is alternating riveted and solid. The original documentation of the find by Ian Stead ( Iron Age Cemeteries in East Yorkshire ) stated that it was...

Re: Use of butted maille in the medieval period

The only butted rings I'm aware of from this time are Renaissance "Parade" armours. Otherwise, any combat worthy mail was either all riveted or riveted alternating with solid (either punched or overlapped and forge welded) rings. The only possible pre-1500 AD example I can think of might be the Cium...

Re: SCA and medieval items for sale - Prices added

You should always check with the laws of your state, as they are constantly changing. But black powder weapons are not restricted by the ATF, as they are considered antique and in the same category as bows, crossbows and air guns by the federal government. And are not technically categorized as a f...

Yes. The elbows are in limbo at the moment, tentatively called for as they are on the fence. I'll go ahead and let the elbow cops go since this other gent is interested, and just focus on the handgonne. I'm not sure that the elbows "fit" with my planned kit anyway, so since there is another good ho...

Not that I can afford it, but do you know what the laws are like in general pertaining to transferring replica firearms from state to state when they're this primitive? Look at the pix. The skull of this sallet was raised from a single sheet of steel. No welding involved. Not sure what more definition you need.
