Thanks! As for peoples reactions, it has mostly incurred jaw-dropping stunned stares and comments about me having too much time on my hands... It really is nice to use. I wheel it in to where I need it and then take the wheels off after it unpack it. It is a chest, a bench or a table depending on wh...

Not me personally, but I know of an armourer who once drilled through his scrotum and into his abdominal cavity. He was looking sickly at an SCA meeting THE NEXT DAY and went to the hospital from there. Worst I ever did was hit myself in the back of the head with a ball peen hammer when it slipped i...

Hey, I've fought outside at night in a thunderstorm with driving rain. I found out a kettle helm REALLY keeps the rain out of your face. And my opponent with the pointed spangen helm was getting VERY nervous. And it's easy to hit someone when they've been temporarily blinded by a lightning flash. Ah...

Thank you for the clarification. Coming from a "heavy-rapier-only" kingdom like the Midrealm I don't have the same level of concern about being ventilated and having my water-tight integrity violated. What I find interesting is the actual record of injuries between heavy armored combat and rapier co...

Yup, Duncan, you are correct about those swords. I was doing some tongue-in-cheek trolling. I'll do some more now (evil, smart-assed grin): How many Viking-era Norsemen and 14th century warriors used schiavonas and mortuary hilts? The Sidesword program is alive and well in the Middle Kingdom and Northshield. In fact, this weekend I will be teaching Sidesword at Northshield Rapier Academy in Duluth, Minnesota. Greetings folks. Mostly I stay out of these discussions, but this hits close to home in a design I have been working on. Sarnac gave me the idea to try to "up" a marshal's head protection in missile melee combat. Here is what I came up with: [img]http://www.gipsonwebdesign.com/Assets/kevin/front.jpg...

Looking for pricing and availability of horn plates
I know the question has been asked and answered here before, but does anyone have info on obtaining flat (or nearly so) horn plates, around 2 inches wide by whatever, or maybe 2 inch diameter disks? Some possible period armor projects in mind.
Thanks!

Seamus, You don't positively need the buffe to make it work. One of my fellow Warders has the "Italian Burgonet" from MusReps, which came with no buffe. He made a perf steel faceplate where he split and formed the bottom of the mask area into a very well-shaped chin. He then attached a brigandine dr...

Juliean, Why don't you try bouncing that question off of Roger Siggs or William Wilson? They can easily be reached on the Livre_de_combat Yahoogroups e-mail list, or if you e-mail me direct, I will give you their e-mail addresses. It's a good question and an interesting thing to study. Others have stated they only want to be hit in the faceplate for the "hit" to count. Am I the only one who see a problem with the combinat...
