Re: Concussions and CTE

The "less technical" argument is wrong.

If the math is sound, and thus far it hasn't been successfully undermined, then arguing against it is literally arguing against physics.

Re: Concussions and CTE

I fear there's still an implication that a smaller fighter, with less body mass or a thinner, longer neck, will still be at much greater risk for concussion and CTE than a big, burly person, even with a heavy helm and high-quality padding. There's nothing implied about this at all. This is a fact I...

I wrote a fencing manual.

It's based on the system of Ridolfo Capoferro, but has been interpreted for the modern audience operating within a sport context. It is appropriate for the novice through intermediate level of skill, and would be a good introduction to SCA rapier or HEMA study. It addresses body and blade mechanics,...

I'm not saying it's a good thing, but to automatically assume that the best Heavy Fighter would become the best Fencer is not correct. How about "when you are stabbed in the leg you don't move that leg". The core difference is that in rattan, you are trusting your armor to protect you from injury. If someone clobbers you, your armor does its job. In rapier, you are trusting your opponent to protect you from injury. All fencing armor is about keeping you safe from things your opponent can't realistic...

It's not in the schedule (currently), but right now the plan is for people interested in C&T pickups to meet in the evenings, starting at about 5, for sparring, etc.. I don't use what I would call a "no mind". My visual processing index has been professionally tested at the 99.9th percentile, so my "relfexes" in a fight are usually more "I saw it coming". I do it in rapier fairly often as well. I can document the practice to at least two manuals from two different lineages, and we don't have any rules against grabbing our own blades.
