Ckanite - you want the XX it's a light portable like the no. 5 but has a deeper taller throat and some captive screws so you can lock the punch & die into the same alignment.

Re: 3 or 5 piece greathelm (or other ideas!)
Especially in the barrel helm you would want to retain the work-hardening as it has flatter planes and has to rely on the strength of the material to resist deformation. The Spangens have more glancing surfaces and their roundy shape increases the resistance to deformation. IMO the barrel would be a...

Delft Clay - use the silicon to make a copy of the original. From that you can use the mold to create a master - this can be of plaster or wax or whatever, you can then refine the master to clean up any faults, it only needs to hold up once - you can cast that in metal and refine the master. Couple ...

ID, I was looking for a 1.5 - 2hp running about 1475rpm but if you have 1hp for a good price that will get me in the saddle leastways. I agree with Mac on the power deal people tend to think bigger is better but it depends upon application. For fine work it's the files by preference, it's hard to sc...

If you are going for different baskets - the rubber cup hilts (Baldar) are the best, they aren't handed in any way and deep enough to protect the fingers without sacrificing mobility and in my opinon are worth the investment.

Take a leather cord (boot shoe lace) and wrap it around the lower bar of your grill - you'll be amazed at how much it dampens the sound - but still add the aventail to stay true to the look.

Mine are pointed very high up. I never have problems with them slipping down. The leather tab my points go through is probably an inch or inch and a half away from the neckline of my arming coat. I live in Vancouver, WA. I wasn't looking for a specific place, but if possible that would be wonderful. I have been calling places with "sheet metal" in their names... but nobody deals with thicker than 16g. I found a steel yard today (the only place that sells 14g) and bought a piece, but it is c...

The additional bar is the "safest" option - alternatively you can take the metacarpal section of your demi-pattern and flip it over to the other side (essentially 2 metacarpals with a notch for the root of the thumb/index finger). I use this arrangement as a demi for my center boss round which gives...

Couple of horizontal slits in the back of the kidney pouch and slip the sheath in between - Close enough tolerances to give a compression fit, yet easy enough to remove dagger and sheath if needed. I think there are some examples in Goubitz's "Purses in Pieces"

Xtracted copper pipes and ball valves should be fine. I'd rather have the gas "hard" piped than hosed any day. When I moved to the UK I had a problem locating adaptors from NPT to BSP. I'm quite sure what your thread standards but it might be easier for you to adapt local fittings to BSP. This link ...

Virginal foray into repousse - Lion Boss
I started this project a while ago - it's 2mm steel - orginally the plan was to raise out of a flat piece of steel but encountered technical difficulties and opted for a composite approach so its constructed from 3 pieces. I also made all of my punches from O1 tool steel. The picture you see below i...

Re: Question on Effigy (Coat of plate/similar)
Sorry missed that Galfrid - that's the problem with Archiving into the wee hours ;) it is very well possible that the bottom row of "rivets" could be attaching a lining and blind rivets are used elsewhere or it could simply be a leather strip that is an attachment point for the faulds . But I'm lean...

Re: Question on Effigy (Coat of plate/similar)
It's late enough that it could be and the row of rivet looking thingies at the bottom edge of the breast plate give that impression. However, you have to be very skeptical about line drawings. My experience with the English effigies is that most depictions have very little in common as the artist's ...

Dumpster diving - you can get most of your pallet banding from an industrial area - even your steel supplier or construction site. Most companies chuck it in the bin and if you ask nicely they'll probably let you have as much as you want.

I would be interested - but cost is the biggest factor. I lean towards the early 14th C. as far as preference of things to see. Especially articulation and range of motion of the early stuff but I wouldn't turn down a chance to examine any armour of interest.

Re: lamellar armour project--looking for advise
John, The front looks pretty good but you are going to have to revise the back. It looks as if it rides up in the back and you may have to add an additional row on the back to even out the horizontal line from front to back. It might be easier if you would look into enlisting the services of a seams...
