Sorry to resurrect a dead thread. Anyone ever get their helm or money back?
I didn't.
I'm still out $1500 or so.

If you are staying in RV land, look for Master Mikolaj Pilypaitis (aka Gary Cheimis). Great guy, member of my Shire, and he stays over there as well.

asbrand, what do the lanterns look like? They've gotta be pretty great to deserve the nice chest :D 'Eh, they're ok. Picked them up from Garden Ridge a few years back. Have "real wax / LED battery powered" candles in them. Had a similar sized chest I'd kept them in, but it was one of those cheap th...

Forgot to add this project to this thread. Lantern chest I created (to carry my camp lanterns in), based sorta on the Viking chests out there, and also just some of my own imagination. I wanted to try some nifty things with my router. Worked out pretty well. From design: https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.ne...

Re: Single Most Painful Shot given/Received By You?
Most painful I've ever received? Probably one from Sir Thorkel (originally from Ansteora), back in the late 80's. Wrap to the back of my (not nearly padded enough) helm which laid me out flat on my stomach and I blacked out for a moment. Had a mild concussion and a killer headache for days. Worst I'...

Re: Looking for suggestions on simpler woodworking builds.
I've created several 3D models using "SketchUp" (a free 3d modelling program). All of my medieval furniture models can be found here: https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/collection.html?id=a8d7796e1c39e47fd40c07d3c15cc681 They are all "built" correctly and each board, pin, etc., can be taken "apart" fr...

I'm with you...I don't care for knots either. Eventually I'll replace those pine side rails on my bed with something else. Is what I could afford at the time. I like Oak just fine. And maple. But, Poplar is so easy to work with. I recently finished a chest, entirely made from poplar. Looks great.

I was going to use 1xsomethings for the ends, Johann. Probably in poplar since they will be visible. My rails can be pine since the bedsheets or curtains keep em covered. And I can't see them as I lay there...I can see the ends....lol. This is exactly what I did on the bed I made. The side rails ar...

I plan on using 2x6 or 2x8 for the runners. They'll hold me ;) Instead of looking for a 2x6 or 2x8 that will be straight enough, look for 1x6's or 1x8's. They can be glued/screwed together to make a 2x6 or 2x8, will be significantly stronger than a 2x, and straighter as well. You don't need a lot o...

Fought for over 25 years. Never had metal elbows or knees. Elbows were always hardened leather. Knees were plastic with leather over them. Never had a problem.
Would just rather have plastic. Never rusts, never needs to be treated, etc.

I suppose I could add a band of leather above the elbow and connect it to it. Just wanna cover the part of my arm just above the elbow. Also helps make sure they don't slip down.
