Maille pick

I picked this up off ebay as a fascination and it's pretty solidly made. I don't plan to enter into mortal combat with anyone wearing maille, but if I were this would be an effective weapon. I know of various medieval weapons designed to penetrate armor, but this is the first maille pick I've seen. ...

Gauging interest: washers for maille use

I have some extra flat washers I've been using for maille, but I have more than I'm likely to ever use. Sized 5/16 - .328 X.547 X.032. Mild steel, but with a good finish and not too prone to rust. Will trade for other maille material. The picture shows the washers combined with 16 gauge 3/8 butted r...

Re: The "Linen Cuirass"

I used to have one. It was fairly well constructed, tough and thick maybe 3/4 inch. Sadly I sold it to make way for a maille hauberk, but it was really cool. Never weapon tested, but knocking my knuckles against it convinced me it would have handled arrows well and protected against slash damage. I ...

Re: Small lamellar

Romans did scale armor not lamellar to my knowledge.

Most modern recreations of lamellar have large plates, including some of the mongolian recreations. The smaller size plates are interesting as it might allow greater flexibility.

Small lamellar

Per this recent post on Chinese armor - http://forums.armourarchive.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=158106&hilit=chinese There appears to be mini lamellar plates for the arms - http://www.mythbbs.net/bbs/attachments/month_1211/1211281651aaeb89ffe4a56358.jpg.thumb.jpg Sounds like an interesting idea t...

The 1st and 2nd one are awesome.

The 2nd has near complete coverage except for the hands, feet, and forearms. Were the forearms commonly unarmored for the period?

Various methods of doing scale armor

I have obtained some flat scales. I could sew or rivet them to a backing, but being a mailler I was looking for other options. What about this - http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=7645178 (scroll down to image of scales attached to maille) This sounds like a rather interesting method. A...
