Re: LF leather, a helmet, and a surcoat
Lord Marcus, I am also working on my first kit, so I share your desire for swiftness. That being said, I strongly recommend hjalmr's helmets. For the price of an Ashcraft Baker helm (which have a terrible reputation) you get a helmet of any major period you desire custom made to your head. A word o...

14th/15th century Venetian coins would be wonderful, and something not found anywhere else. They were used all over the world, especially in Germany, (and of course, Italy).

Not necessarily, but it's what he wants. And any open helmet sections do help with ringing.zippy wrote:open ears wont stop the ringing

WTB Helmet for a friend w/ open ears
I have a friend looking for a helmet, pretty much any helmet style really, but it has to have open ears. He's very picky about ringing. His budget is 300 dollars. Mild steel is OK, but stainless is always preferred. I know a lot about helmet vendors, but really only for the 14th century styles. I've...

I keep flip flopping on the art. On the one hand, it looks too modern. On the other, it looks bad ass. My thoughts exactly. As a period reproduction, I would have to say it fails. It's got a very comic book look to it. As art in a modern sense (different from "modern art") I think it rocks. I just ...

Re: Helm, bargrill bars
I kind of wonder... I've been making helms for years on end with bargrills using 1/4 inch dia. zinc plated steel bars. The plating keeps the bars shiny/prevents rust. If you are going to start welding them then zinc is your enemy. You will have to completely remove the coating at the welds or risk ...

If accuracy is your goal, do please remember that not all colors are created equally, or at least for the same price. The class you intend to portray should factor greatly into your color choices.

A standard size keg in the US is the half-BARREL keg, which holds 15.5 GALLONS. If that size works for you, you might try calling your local beer distributors, and see if they have any retired kegs, though aluminum has been the standard for a while now.

After fighting, I either change clothes (cote and hosen) or change into modern clothes (jeans and such). Since I'm at an event, I guess I figure people assume the clothes I'm referencing are medieval unless otherwise stated. Nobody has seemed too confused.
