Try to see if you can get your hands on a copy of the Medieval Tailor's Assistant (most likely available at your local Laurel). What you're looking for is in there, I believe.

I'm currently making pattens out of several layers of 10oz leather. They won't completely keep you out of horrible muck like the mile-high wooden ones, but I'm hoping they are much more comfortable. They are also 100% documentable, including a half layer of leather in the heel for comfort.

While the above are certainly belts, to me they are not the type of kidney belt armour that we see in the SCA. Were the roman and greek belts meant as armour or as belts (to hold something up, or cinched down.) The bronze one looks like it would be armour, the Roman one not so much. Of course these...

Is there a commonly avaliable material that mimmicks leather? By that I mean something that won't rip or come un-done if I punch a hole in it. Cool! What kind of rules are you guys using? Basic SCA Society rules for Cut and Thrust. Our biggest differentiation is that Calontir ONLY allows dual class blades and Cut and Thrust only blades. That way we can all play on the same field at the same time. No epees, schlagers, foils, et al. Any his...

Arrows--Glaukos?, or other advice

Where is the best place to buy target arrows? Modern ones probably, my brother--who so far has shown no interest in anything medieval--is interested in archery. He wants to know where to get them, and Glaukos--he's shooting at Lake Needwood--so if there's something in Rockville that would be great. ...
