Review of new crossbow
Fist, while I do have a digital camera, I have no idea how to post a pic. If I figure it out I gladly will. Now to business: My new crossbow came in the mail today. It is from Meric Archery in Rochester NY.m Some of his work can be seen here. I have to say that I found Eric very helpfull and accomod...

Actualy Hush, My housedog Tessa would be a great sitter in so far as no one or nothing would come near her without me there. She is very protective of the baby! And if I get time this summer, I do plan on building a cart/wagon for Poison or Tessa to pull Rhiana in. Problem is I can`t bring them anyw...

Some Pennsic questions, advice sought
So heres the deal. I havn`t been to war in over a decade, and last time I was there, it was very much a live hand to mouth situation on my own. Also the last time I was there, there were the three main battles on the last weekend, with other things happening through the last week. I made it for the ...

Sarnac and Vitus, THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! You have both made crystal clear the points I have tried to make in the past both in this thread and others! I see no reason we can`t all play our own game and let others play theres in the same venue. I am unable to understand why some folks wish t...

My old household does those to determine house champion. I still remember my first one. My best friend and I aproached each other with talk of an allience on our lips and the intent to clock the other one when he wasn`t looking in our hearts! Good times, good times!. We did a few of them that day, a...

Combat archery came to the East after I got out of the SCA some time ago, and I havn`t had the opprotunity to see it in action since I`ve been back. That being said, and admiting that my opinion is based on a lack of firsthand experience, I have no problem with it and was all for it when I was last ...

Lost Scott is right. Other popular dogs are Cataloua Lepard Dogs, Black Mouth Curs, American Bulldogs, Alahapa Bluebloods, and mixes of the above. Any of the above and pit bulls may or may not be used in conjunction with various scent and sight hounds to bring the quarry to bay and then release the ...

I don`t know a whole lot about the subject, but heres what I do know; The dog hunting is generaly done down south against razorbacks. I believe two to five dogs are generaly used. Different bloodlines throw different traits, including levels of inherent dog aggresion. You want a less hot line for wo...

"I don't think your pit bulls will be good for this; they don't have the speed I think you'd need. Alaunts were used in period, and they were a fast, powerful breed." Pit bulls are used fairly often for boar hunting and have proven to be more than up to the task. They are in fact one of the more hig...

Ulrich, thanks! I`ve been pricing out wall tents too. I hope to get one in time for war and the link you gave does have the best price to quality ratio I have seen! I have a lot of stuff to get for war, so I may have to settle with a mundane tent, but at the prices these guys sell I may not. Thanks!...

"Actually, I *am* talking about this latter level. My preference is to fight at the level that Duke Michael, Duke Anton, Duke Ronald, and Duke Lucan use (hmmm... note that these are all dukes?). None of these gentlemen cause a disproportionate number of injuries." You are then talking about the leve...

In light of Richards post, I think I see where some of my confusion may be coming from at least in regards to calibration. As I now understand it, what some people propose is raising the SCA wide bar to the level of calibration of some of the more "rugged" East kingdom fighters. Not the high end fig...

Cheval, the spin you put on this whole issue has definitly got me re-thinking. We are definitly the better for having more level heads such as yours around to temper the arrogance of some and the defensivness of others (like myself) I appreciate you taking the time to clarify things for me. When put...

Sir Rhys, In response, "This isn't about making things the way *I* want them to be, it's about making them the way they*should* be. " Should be is very subjective. Your idea and mine might not click. As long as we can both play and have fun this isn`t a problem. Its only when the views of one try to...

Quoted from Sir Shys "The bottom line is if you don't do it full speed and full power you're not doing the real thing, and your just playing tag. If that's what you like, hey, go for it. Somewhere else." I may be misunderstanding here, but I have caught similar statements from you in other topics an...

I don`t think it falls under grappling. Basicaly once close I first get my shield between my opponant weapon arm and me. Then I rol the upper right part of my body to the left to get my weapon elbow inside his shield. Then I roll my upper body hard to the right to move his shield out of the way and ...

I have been able to find absolutly nothing on mace fighting. Basicaly your going to need to get up with someone who has used them and learn what you can or your going to have to teach yourself. I can give a few general tips though; Get in close and do it FAST. You have a short weapon. The longer you...

When I fight mace I like to plant my shield in the front crook of the arm/torso and tie up my opponants weapon. I have to be very carefull because even though I don`t strike with the shield, I have had folks whine about it. Overall though I think it is accepted here in the Northern region of the Eas...
