" 3/8" ID is what my readily-available mandrel will turn, and 16ga. looks like the most easily acquired wire in the area." If your going to do any fighting in it I would suggest 14g. !6g. in 3/8id. butted will not hold up well, at least for SCA combat. Maybe boffer, but I doubt it. I know every bit ...

Heres what I`ve always done with a kite, your milage may vary. First of all, this assumes you are using it in an SCA context. When I strap one, I like it so that when my arm is held in close and comfortably (left elbow on left hip, fist around chin level, left side forward) the bottom corner will an...

Sir Rhys, I have tried three times now to write a response to some of the things you said, but not being to eloquent withthe typed word, I didn`t like the tone of them when I read them back. Are you going to be at Birka tomorrow? I would be interested in discussing this in person, and being shown fi...

As long as its a legal target area, I will hit it if its open, armor or not. I will try to hit a spot I know is unarmored a little lighter, but I will hit it, and not feel bad at all. While I agree that the Met piece is inconclusive, wearing the piece it seems to make sense to me to do it that way. There are enough gaps and slots between plates as well as open areas, that it would be easy to slide a well placed point between them . To that end the mail underneath provides a secon...

Plus, based on the piece in the Met. http://www.metmuseum.org/collections/view1zoom.asp?dep=4&full=0&mark=1&item=29%2E154%2E3 it looks to me like there is a shirt und...

As far as the corazina goes, it does seem to be the general consensus that the fauld plates in the Met. and on mine are not documentable. I won`t say they didn`t exist that way because they might have, but we have no proof. The one in the Met is a re-creation based on the assumptions of the staff th...

Update on new armor, small problem with a Weslig Stjerne pro

Some of you may remember some months ago I got new gear from a variety of places. I fought in it all for the first time sunday and was overall quite pleased. I was wearing: Steel grieves from Westlig Stjerne/Alemain Rivet, splinted legs with 5 piece articulations from the same, articulated pauldrons...

Grappeling in SCA combat

This came up in another thread, and I figured it deserved its own thread. I have thought a lot about grappeling being added to SCA combat, I think it could add to the overall flavor and make things more realistic and fun in a lot of ways. But, I have serious concerns. Before I chimed in here, I talk...

I am trying to do the same thing, but not with hounds. There is some credence to that argument)Anyhow, I am trying to figure out how to justify...

I agree with Ian here. We are supposed to base our standard on mail. The protection offered by mail isn`t just as a physical hard barrier between steel and body, but of the blanket effect when one hits loose mail. This is inherint in the design of the material. I also feel that as we are supposed to...
