Re: Golden Mace at Aethelmearc War Practice
I did in fact get pictures of it. Unfortunatly I left my camera in my knights car and it will be a few days at best til I can get it back and post them but rest assured, I DID make it my first priority upon setting up to get them and pics will be coming. I most humbly apologize for the delay. John/D...

Thank you Chef- I saw Marks post about Friesans sveral hours ago and while I knew He was mistaken and that they were bred to be carriage pullers but I couldn't back it with anything more than "you're wrong because I know thats incorrect" and thats a lousy way to support ones position!

Re: Polypro is now SCA legal
Why polypropylene instead of, say, fiberglass? Fiberglass is much more well-suited to the sorts of impacts delivered in this sport than polypropylene. No. No its not. I would be most put out by someone attempting to strike me with a inch and a quarter fiberglass baton in an SCA combat context. Fibe...

I tried one out last night and had one tried on me. The guy I was fighting usually hits pretty solid and did hit me with a couple of good solid hits that I had no problem with, head, body and unarmoured thigh- they were good, crisp and not overly hard- right where I expect his shots to be. My concer...

Re: Rise of Destriers?
I was thinking of Andalusians. But honestly, you can't shop by breed. Any proper destrier is going to be a horse with a big chip on it's shoulder, and "ain't afear'd o' nothin." You're looking for a shorter horse -15 to 16HH- that's strong as an ox, faster than you would expect, inexhaustibly energ...

Thank You Gaston! Yes, I would be wearing them pointed over a gambeson and likely additionally padded with wool on sheepskin to snug them up properly. Some dents I'm not too worried about, I just want to feel secure that they won't get beaten to hell- I'm getting them to look nice and beaten and war...

Finn- Sir Olaf tested a sword last week at practice that Earl Yngvar brought- Maybe you can get up with one of them and Olaf can bring it to war practice? I neither tested it myself nor allowed myself to be hit with it. -I didn't like the feel of it in hand and Olaf hits me in the legs too much and ...

16 gauge or 18?
I'm looking at a pair of Bazis that are offered in both 16 gauge stainless and 18gauge stainless. I'm mostly a sword and sheild SCA fighter in Aethelmearc, with maybe 15-20 percent of my fighting not being sword and shield. Either way, I don't get hit in the forearms much (knock on wood) Mostly I'm ...

Honestly, if I'm in range to hit a combat archer it most likely means I got into my opponents backfield. I'm there to do maximum "harm" to the "enemy" in as minimum time as possible and hopefully not get gacked in the process. If I'm in range to hit a CA in that situation it most likely means the sh...

Does anyone have pics of a Master Knut short aventail mounted on a helmet? I'm thinking I want an aventail for my hat from the browline down and I'm wondering if I can get away with a short one.

Re: Will the BoTN change the SCA:s HF game?
I undertstand SCA is SCA but I still get mighty disappointed when I go to fight and I'm in a rather historically accurate late 13th century kit, and the guy or gal I am fighting is wearing picklebarrel armour covered by a tent of a tunic. It spoilt the fun for me. Now when I watch SCA mass melees a...

I also advise them to check with me before they go buying stuf...

Re: A question about impeding blows.
Grabbing the shield with a gauntleted hand is a definite no as per my understanding of the rules. Stepping into shots or otherwise impeding a blow with a legal target area so as to rob power is completely legit and part of a balanced defense in my opinion. The rules now read, as I understand them th...

I don't quite follow what you are saying here- can you clarify?Said ibn-Ali wrote: I also use the leg sweep defense when leg shots come in. I often let the shot hit and I have no real weight on it, so it just moves the leg, with no force behind it. So it hits, but is light.
