Re: small headed axe. four foot shaft. SCA

I'd put a butt spike and a thrusting tip on it- logic being in period, with its real counterpart. you would have the option of thrusting with the lead point of the blade or jamming the butt into someones face or solar plexes. Without putting those on the SCA version of the weapon, you lose those opt...

Re: Loooking for SCA version of Schiavona Basket Hilt in SS

I've been used several Ironmonger baskets, both the L shaped and the heart shaped with absolutely no complaints. I dropped the hammer on a stainless heart shaped model years ago and have been using it since with no problems. He does good, solid work. I've also used one of his sheild baskets for year...

MJBlazek- Mine is just Kong toy with the smallest of the three layers cut off. It makes for a small head but with enough give in do to the space between the rubber and rattan. It seems to hit good enough and it passed here in Aethelmearc so I think it would pass in the East.

I don't use one too much any more but years and years ago I did. Mine have always hovered right around two feet. My current one is 25 inches.

Re: Maille question

Just looking at the pic I would say go for it. I fought in riveted mild mail for some time without any problems and in the course of a few years only lost a couple rings. It is my understanding, and I freely admit I could be wrong here, that most of the mail made in India is made in just a couple of...

I will add that of late I havn't been fighting often and as such I'm a bit rusty and slow. That coupled with the above mentioned viking has me seriously reconsidering the benefits of thigh armor

I fight in a sword foot forward lead mostly. Kite shield, 38 to 40 inch sword. Mostly the reasons I find it works for Me have already been listed above. I'm also from the east coast strapped kite Lucan/Feral school. I rarely get hit in the leg to the point that I stopped wearing thigh armour some ti...

Re: Have you ever wished there was a "shot clock"?

Nope. I tend to counterpunch and I like to make my opponant come to me. If I have to wait for them to do it, no problem. I don't see this from the best fighters, but I have seen fighters so committed to waiting for a counterpunch that I get two or three free unanswered thrusts at them with my parti...

I fight in sword foot forward lead with a kite shield and a 40in sword. I'm quick and have a decent offside. I like to wait and let them come to me usualy. Sometimes however they drift into my range or I manage to creep into my outer range without them realizing it and I can sieze initiative and put...

I do have some luan leftover from the same project that I do know I can curve. I'm saving that for myself. Lighter fluid, WD 40, Goo gone, gun oil, acetone, I just use whatever is handy. No real preference. I keep my helms polished and turtle waxed too which I think helps keep tape from sticking too bad. On the infrequent occasions when I have a shield, I may do a big, attention getting slap. It's a show for the crowd, an attention getter that says "hey folks, we're ready to go here, you might want to watch this" and it says to my opponent that I'm ready to go. Gavin, my memory tells me t...
