I would dearly love to have those greaves, since the measurements indicate that they'd fit me perfectly, but try as I might over the last couple of weeks, I just have just not been able to raise enough funds to come up with any more than half their price so far...

I'd like to think that I could indeed help you, but I'm not so sure that I could do so unless you were present. We could try, I guess. It might help if I knew what your arming doublet looked like and exactly how it fit you, and which model of voiders you have. Can you post some pics of the items? Ev...

Got a link for that? I've never heard of such a fragment. The early fragments I'm aware of (there are only a tiny handful that date to prior to 250 AD) are reasonably easy to identify, since they are similar to later versions of the text from the same culture. Whoops. Terribly sorry; I had meant to...

I don't care to be labeled a "thug" either.

The 14th century has co-opted the term "mafia," it the 16th century guys took "illuminati."

Surely we can come up with something classier than "thug."

If it helps you any, Cliff, Charles Ffoulkes relates in The Armourer and His Craft that the larger plates in horse armour are around 1/16th inch in thickness.

I agree with you; few things in SCA combat are more boring than a sword and shield bout. Once upon a time, the local practices in Manhattan, Kansas saw shields other than bucklers only rarely. Now, it seems like sword and shield is all anyone plays. I confess to disappointment upon noting that sword...
