Rook of the Kur clan won it, Kyo from the War Eagles clan came in second. It was a privilege to watch Rook fight and to fight in the same pit as him. The way that man moves is simply incredible. I believe my woman has videos of at least two of the quarter finals matches. I'll ask her to post them o...

There are mitigating factors. Letting waterbearers "reload", getting combat archers to gather their bolts and get them inspected, moving haybales, etc. Now with a little co-operation, these can be sped up too, cutting down the wait. While these might have been issues, I'm confident they w...

I want to thank those who hosted this event for doing so- this was my first Pennsic and the Pas was the most amazing part of an amazing week.

Again, thank you for hosting and thank you for the open invitation.

Happened sometime last fall. It was a smallish event, with 40 or so people on the field. My team was charged with taking a small hay bale fort- basically a 3 sided box probably 10*10 feet in diameter. Both sides deploy with shields up front, poles and spears behind. I'm fighting with a large two-han...

I was thinking about a good solution, and it occurred to me that there would be a certain elegance to this one- Move everything to three counted blows. Have shots by archers count as a blow, just as a hit from a melee weapon. This has the potential for less frustration on all sides- being shot isn't...

In Macedonian infantry the shields were held by a guige strap, since both hands were needed to handle the 16 foot Sarissa... though other straps were attached to the shield as well. Strangely, they don't appear depicted in Hoplite shields, or Scuta as far as I know. G Glaukos, do you have a picture...

Violen's Suggestions for SCA Trying Dagorhir: 1. Leave your honor at the edge of the battlefield. Ok. The game lost all apeal in my book. That's not quite fair. Most Dag players are pretty good at taking shots, and there are many who will take absolutely anything unless you tell them it wasn't good...

I actually started fighting with Dag, before moving on to Markland and the SCA. It was fun. I thought/think their calibration is too light, though it isn't tap fighting, and the people who are good at it are very good at what they do. I do like the physicality of it, though because of the low calibr...

YES! I've felt much the same way, especially when I'm fighting a shieldman with my pole arm. It's like "Ok, well, I'm going to stay outside your range and hammer you until something hits, because nothing else makes sense for me to do." I can't help but feel a little guilty about that kind...

I don't particularly enjoy fighting a legged opponent. He's gone from being an exciting toy to try and kill, to less fun toy that just sits there. It almost feels dishonorable. Knee fighting doesn't particularly bother me- I simply don't enjoy it. I find it uncomfortable and on several occasions in the past I've destroyed the strapping on my leg armour by knee fighting on hard surfaces. So long as the situation is friendly or practice, I'll usually take a leg shot as a kill.

Question regarding Armstreet and SCA

I'm seriously considering buying these:

http://cgi.ebay.com/MEDIEVAL-ARM-BRACER ... 634.c0.m14

However, I'm not sure if they provide enough elbow protection to be worn alone as an SCA heavy. I want to say they do, but I don't have the experiance to make a call one way or the other from the pictures. What say you?

Thanks in advance.

After speaking with a friend regarding the problem of the sleeves (and I would really prefer this to be a single piece, not a hauberk with a covering), he suggested that the sleeves be open down the middle/bottom then strapped closed at 2-3 points on the arm. That would allow the sides to buckle and...
