Wow... that tatt is impressive.
You have to think... even just getting a torso done would mean ALOT of hours under the needle.

I am in full agreement with Lochlainn here. Altho' I have been told that this tactic does not work well in SCA due to the masses. Apparently it DOES work.

Bedlam, It is true that usually breaking into a triad happens to "clean up" as it were. But also most wars I've seen have skirmishers that are not in the main group, here a triad works well also; whether you are SCA or Darkon or Markland or Daggorheir or whatever. I've done some sparring with Scadia...

Greatsword & shield walls dont mix. Leave the shieldwall for the sword & board people & those that like to fight with grain-threshers. Ive had GREAT success fighting in "triads" with two greatswordsmen on either side of a shield or two greatswords & a spear in the middle. The Times I've been forced ...

Other things I had heard about some of the larger swords. ( I dunno if its true or not ) The wielder would spin around like a top while wadeing into a group Quillions were sharpened and if the point of the sword were placed on the ground it would put the quillions at eyelevel. A punching motion woul...

Wow, I neever thought so much responce would be generated when I originally posted this topic. I fully agree a balanced weapon is key, my own sword is 5' long with the point of balance immediatly in fron of the quillions. One nice advantage of a balanced weapon is if need be in an emergency it can b...

Wow, lots of diverse replies. Let me try to explain my own technique I use. Now unlike SCA my group cannot hit to the head http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/frown.gif although we can go for shots below the knee. I usually stand facing my opponent feet shoulder width apart, knees slightly bent, on the...

GreatSword

Anyone out there have any experience or techniques for fighting GreatSword?
I've been doing it for about 15 years but often feel as if I'm reaping grain. I pretty much developed my own 'style' but would love to learn or attempt new technique, in addition to discussing form

How Do I Blacken Armor

One thing I have seen on some of the armorer's pages is blackened armor. How does one blacken armor? I had seen a couple of sites that stated they blackened the stuff on a Bar-B-Que grill. After it's balckened how durable is the black? I have several suits of butted maille I'd like to blacken & also...

How Do I Start?

First off thax to all those that helped me with my leather questions. Looking at all the sweeeeeeet projects many of you have made rekindled interest in makeing a small armoury. What equipment/tools would I need to start making torso armor & helms? Awww Hell, I KNOW I'll want to do legs & arms too. ...

How Much Leather?

I'm getting ready to make some leather armor in the style of articulated plate. Im planning on using a black oil treated latigo in 8 - 10oz weight ( unless someone has a better suggestion ). My problem lies in that I'm not sure how much leather I need; I stand six foot even & weigh about 188lbs, 41 ...
