I don't know that I did. Let me rephrase the question:

If you look at someone holding a shield, and think/say "That is a huge/small shield" what exactly are you basing that judgement on?

Shield size

So we've heard about "barn door" shields, and many other mentions of a large shield vs. a smaller shield. Thing is, that is a very relative description. If actual measurements aren't included, how does one determine 'large' or 'small'? We use landmarks of the human body, e.g. the knee, hea...

Re: Cut and Thrust question (SCA/WMA)

Many, many SCAdians have the least armour the rules allow. More have poorly constructed, ill fitting harness that frequently gaps at inconvenient moments. Then they really don't qualify as " at least moderately armoured correctly " as I originally stated, and therefore are not included in...

And you have to get over that "full power" "full force" concept. It isn't a reality in the SCA. If it were, there would be broken and dead bodies after every event were large men smack smaller people. There is a blow calibration convention in the SCA for a very good reason. What...

I believe the point of keeping your head behind your forward foot is to maintain your center of gravity, so that you remain balanced even when throwing shots, and you are always in position to generate power properly with the hips & legs. I was trained to do this in martial arts, and again when ...

My main concern is that the helmets I use for fighting with steel are mostly only 14 gauge mild steel and would crush like an eggshell in SCA rattan. Still, I'll see what I can do. Actually, 14g mild will last you a very long time in the SCA, and still look good. I wouldn't say that. It is safe eno...

What's sad is some people feeling the need to compare my distaste for a sport to racism. If you feel rapier is what you are I feel bad for you. Rapier is not a religion or ethnicity. It's an activity. Big difference. Yeah, if all you do in the society is fight heavy, you are a heavy fighter. You pr...

Baron, I would recommend Armour & Castings for some good, solid brass buckles that aren't too thin or fancy to be used on armour. There aren't too very many that are made for big straps, but 1 inch strapping buckles they do have. Also, Raymond's Quiet Press has some that would also fit the bill ...
