That's strange. Is it because some people were making historical liners that didn't pad well enough?
Sorry, can't help with the foam question. I just touched EVA for the first time last Saturday.

Wow! You guys are awesome! I'm blown away that I have this much of a responce so quickly. Looks like I'll be picking up some soapstone, because you all say it's so easy. I can just carve the pendant into the face of a small slab, yes? So that one side is decorative and the other is just flat. -Halbr...

Pewter casting mold help needed
I’ve gathered that home pewter casting is fairly simple. I think I can handle the casting part at home without any further instruction or help. What I don’t know much about is the mold making. Soap stone carving sounds out of my reach. What are other options? I want to make six identical pendant...

Usually sautee pans are much thicker on the bottom than on the side, I dunno if welding an outer edge that's thinner would be too practical. But, I am not a great armourer, so just my .02 I'm just a beginning armorer. But it seems you could stretch the edge up and away from the bottom, thus thinnin...

Rolling the edge on a gorget
I know just the other day smeone asked about rolling an edge before forming a piece. And that the general concensus was a big fat no. But what about on something so easily distorted like a gorget? A 16 gauge gorget can bacically be hand bent to shape. If I wanted a rolled edge so that it will keep t...

I'd appreciate critique! And for whoever commented on my slave girl, she's my 10 year old daughter not my lady. She loves playing along with the slave girl thing too. I also do SCA, although I can't fight yet because I don't have my armor anywhere close to complete. I wear the exact same kit to SCA ...

Three months later, and I've finally decided on the device I'm going and try to register. I don't see any probelms with it. Thanks for the suggestions!!! I like the taller hat. But I have no idea how high I can go without it becoming an unblockable target. Is there a general rule of X inches above the top of your head? It's actually 6 panels. Here's a picture from the top so you can see. [img]http://i922.photobucket.com/...

First ever helmet pattern - Help a brother out
Two pictures of me wearing it over two layers of knit beanie and 1/2" foam. Maybe a little more than required or wanted for SCA combat, but fairly close. http://i922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/Halbrust/helmetonmyhead.jpg [img]http://i922.photobucket.com/albums/ad62/Halbrust/onthehead2.jpg[/img...

Armour compatibility?
I was wondering if these armour pieces fit together without any horrible anachronisms or culture clashes. I stole (borrowed really) pictures from reputable armorers of what looks most like what I'll try and make. While I'm sure what I'll make will look only slightly like these works of arts, they ar...

Spangenboss?
Has anyone ever seen a shield boss using a construction method as used for the top of a spangenhelm? Or just made to look that way?
I'm about to make my first boss and have decided that it would look really cool, and not cause any issues other than a touch more weight.

"viking" hat that will keep the sun off your neck
I'm attempting to lose the keffiyeh and be a little more true to my Norse/Rus (little undecided) persona. But I live in Southern California and burn easily. I was thinking I could wear a kopak (the santa hat?) that is wider and longer than traditional and let it fall straight back. But I don't think...

WTB cheap seax
I'm looking for a cheap (meaning around $20) "historical" seax. I know full well that you get what you pay for! But does anyone know a place to get a cheap functional knife that will pass as a seax from 20 feet or to the average person that doesn't know any better? I want one without a but...
