Re: 2" rattan in Meridies

It would (if I lived there) impact every seax I have made except one, and a few of the polearms. I asked on Facebook: Could some kind of addendum/modification be made for ultra-short weapons? Most of the weapons I know that will be affected by this are seaxes and mini-maces under 24" total length, ...

Foxknife Wide Weapons in Meridies

For those of you that haven't heard, an email is going around that the Kingdom of Meridies has banned "extra thick" rattan weapons over two inches in width or thickness unless they are padded on the striking surface. 90% (or more) of the rattan wasters that I have produced are still legal in Meridie...

Re: 2" rattan in Meridies

Most Choppas I have seen were made from 1.75" rattan with shaved sides and foam on the back of the blade to make them visually impressive. Does this rule mean that the foam backing will need to be chopped down? I don't expect to see either the shaped swords or Baron Eirik's new shaped pole arms affe...

Nevermind. A search on Facebook for "Kingdom of Meridies" pulls up two different pages. I was looking at the wrong one.

Re: Over sized Great sword cross auction. Hessen Iron proto

In general, drilling holes in rattan is a bad idea. Crosshilts, in general, move in two directions: they spin and they slide down onto the handle. For spin, the best solution is non-round mountings. That works quite well. For sliding down the handle, I've looked at some gadgets like rubber anti-ratt...

Both.

Stefan used to make them round except on request, but I strongly prefer oblong so most of those that he has sent to me for marketing on my website are oblong. He can, of course, make them either way.

One would start with slightly larger than minimum diameter rattan and shave the sides.

Or they could start with a lot thicker than minimum diameter and get fancy.

I haven't updated the website at http://foxknife.com yet (you guys are the first ones to hear about them), but Stefan took his solid wheel pommel pattern and made some in aluminum ! $40 each. Edit: Weight on all four is almost exactly 4.2 oz. Now that they are posted on the website, shipping weights...

I contacted Darkwood and got some new taping forks, so they will match as well. I got some Windrose taping forks as well, but they won't work for the Hessen pommel.

Looks good. Not at all what I imagined when you first described it to me. When it comes time to replace that stick another option you might want to consider is sticking it in some kind of vice and hammering a brass dowel through the place where the rattan goes first. The goal is to push out the meta...
