I echo Nissan on that. I didn't use post it notes but just practiced targeting individual bricks. It gets your arm and wrist used to the impact. A mix of drills hitting a solid stationary object for power and a swinging ball for targeting moving objects are both good. Hitting helmets on a shieldwall...

Particularily any advice on defeating that really tight centergrip defense Murchad uses. Sir Stein uses a similar style that I also find frustrating. Thanks all! Need to throw more combos. 5 to 7 shots at a time instead of 1 or two. He sword blocks his head so use that to tie up his sword in a defe...

Re: Competitive vs. ‘How we fought’

honestly, I just want to fight like my persona would have. There is no way ANYbodys persona would Armour up and fight like the SCA tourney masters do. No way in hell. But the thing I am still learning is. The SCA is not in any way shape or form supposed to have even the slightest hint of realism or...

Hmmm certain cultures used certain weapons with frequency because they were effective. I don't see how someone could look at a functional weapon and say "that wouldn't work" Obviously it would and did which is why they had them. As far as winning vs losing I mean really the point of puttin...

Hey Guys, A lot of you have enjoyed the "All right you Nellies" thread. It was very useful to me, as it kept me working out, and gave me accountability. But now it's over. I WONT be doing more of those insult posts in the foreseeable future. Those were undignified, and embarrassing. But I...

Sounds like the best scenario I have ever heard. Would have to be done "privately" due to marshall considerations. Uhhmm aren't most of us authorized marshals? I mean if we aren't then we should be and it is easy to become one so why not do that and then there is no more problem getting e...

Well we have a structure in place that was originally the focus of the entire organization. Now we have people go to crown lists and don't want to watch the tournament, don't give a shit who wins and are upset because horses weren't there for them to focus on. At one time in the SCA everybody knew w...

It' not an attitude Chef. It's an observation over the past 34 years. People who are accepted into the SCA who don't like what the SCA is and want it to be something different doom the organization. We can cater to so many activities that eventually nobody will be there for the same reason and nobod...

No actually it does not diminish my 34 years of SCA experience. It might diminish yours though because you would come to the SCA expecting a period reenactment and you would not get it. That's why you do what you do and we do what we do. Different strokes for different folks Chef.

Many knights across the SCA are the ones who have the biggest issue with DFB actually. The main argument against it seems to be lack of chivalry and realism in battle. I contest that viewpoint by suggesting that DFB is a courtesy to an unaware opponent yet it does not interrupt the flow of battle. I...
