Kel, I will buy the book direct from the library when he gets back from holiday or wherever he is in mid september. ... which is exactly why I am wondering about the book in question. I think it would be fairly difficult for a leather breastplate to survive more than a few hundred years. I think it would be used and abused, the property of a fairly poor man who could not afford iron or bronze. Then once it wore o...

Yes, among the two counties I have easy access to. Funny thing here in Utah, lots of Mormon history books but very few on history of armour. If it comes down to it, I will end up buying it from the museum directly if the HMIC contacts me back. Assuming that the book contains the info I am looking fo...

Thanks for the helpfull reply Fire Stryker. $42 is reasonable, I just wish there was a copy available at the county librarys here. I have found pdf versions of other books and then purchased them if I liked them. Nothing compares to thumbing through the pages to see if it is what you are looking for...

Just wondering if anybody has a PDF of this hard to find, and expensive book. Has anybody here read this book? Is it any good?

I drilled mine out when the rod stripped, and replaced it with 3/4 allthread rod and a 3/4 tie nut. The nut fits ALMOST perfectly (needed 2 edges ground down a bit) and wedges nicley inside the lower casing of the EW. Also, the allthread shaft adds stability and strength to the lower arm. I meant to...

I own the HF english wheel, and use it quite a bit. It has a very hard time with shaping anything heavier than 20 gauge, but I use it for planishing. Does anybody here make thier own axe heads? (SCA)
I was just wondering if there is an SCA legal method to make a decent axe head from leather or other materials. Or do you have to use the vulcanized rubber heads?
Also, does anybody know of a source for thick rubber sheets?

Somebody needs to help me find this reference... I seem to recall reading about a pre-norman Irish hero who wore the hide of a bull around his torso, in seven bands from armpit to waist. Sounded like a leather lorica to me, but I'll be damned if I can remember the source. Some online book about anci...
