I imagine that a spear would be used in the same way as a staff, only with a point. In that way SCA spears are severely hampered.

Yeah Stephen, thanks for the pic.

Vogeljager (how do you pronounce that anyway?) I know it was a bit big , but the question was about dream armour. I took that to mean that we liked the way it looked and how well if functioned was immaterial.

I don't think I care for that idea. It would start a bad trend. Now, you could set up an unbelted tourney or something. After all, there are knight only tornements. But can you imagine not being allowed to compete because you are good.

Schlager gorgets

I hope I spelled that right.
My fencers are looking for gorgets suitable for SCA schlager combat. We are all atlantian if that makes a difference. They would like to keep it inexpensive as most of them are still college students with all the financial difficulties that implies.

did the samuri have tournements?

that discussion on the real plate and maille tourney got me wondering. We all know European knights fought in tournements regularly. But what of their Japanese counterparts. Or Asia in general for that matter.

Would a combatant with coverage in steel the equivalent of a 1066 norman hauberk be allowed to compete. That is the coverage of my scale armour.

My neck, the upper portions of my arms and shoulders, my entire torso front and back, down to about my knees.

We had a guy visiting us at pennsic who was from Antir (Arizona, I think).

Anyway he was amazed at the size of some of our shields. When he asked what the size limit here in Atlantia was we replied.
"Uhm, you have to be able to carry it with one arm."
I think that is about the only limit.

1878 Sabre techniques...

I'm putting this into a new post to make things easier. If you need to know what the hell I'm talking about then look at the thread on sabre manuals and on handed sword techniques. I looked in that cavalry tactics book that I mentioned. The book was printed in New York city in 1878. The title is -U....

Tell him hello for all of us down here please.

I only know one person who pursues a baldric. A friend who moved from here up to the East Kingdom. I'm not sure how many of you are aware, but Atlantia does not make Masters of Arms, only knights.

Shamless, your knights name sounds very familiar to me. Has he ever been down here in Black Diamond?
