Graphite?

Probably will rub off then. Stainless armour is a bit less porous than a cast iron stove.

Stove black for armour

I've been collecting the MSDSs for all of our chemicals at work. Its about 10 or more years out of date. I've contacted the manufacturer of some stove black that we have, but the manufacturer has no data on it at all. So, with no MSDS we have to get rid of it. I'm wondering if I can use it to darken...

Do you have any information on when and where they were used?

Other than around the waist that is :)

Thanks guys! Kilkenny, I am mostly fighting against s&s, and sometimes against a greatsword. I lose to the great sword every time, the guy using it likes to get up really close, bind my weapon and push upwards, then nail me in the face with his buttspike/pommel. So I guess I will have to start doin...

I was about to lament that not a single character seemed to own a helmet or maille.

Then I saw this pic.

Some "Braveheart" style armour, but still not a scrap of maille in any picture I saw.

The nice thing about the osprey books is that they do quote their sources. So, if you find something you like (even if it is a stylized interpretation) you can trace it back to the source material and start fresh from there.

I assume you got the wool I gave to Aldred.

Aethelwulf tells me that his aketon was one of his most protective suits ever. He got a bit too warm in it though.

Sir Corby wore one for a long time. Perhaps you could ask him.

I used to wear one. But I discarded it. Too hot.

The only non required padding I have now (aside from what nature and too much food have graced me with) is on my shoulders. It supports the weight of the maille.

I've seen a leather half gauntlet that passed the "rigid" test that I was able to crumple up in my left hand.

I then smoothed it back out handed it back to the fighter and told him, "I wouldn't use it."

But, it passed so he used it.

I just tried putting the acrylic wax on my blackened voiders. It made a terrible mess and broke all the blackening off. I dipped them into the wax and hung them on a 2X2 to dry. I had them suspended over my bath tub since it was so cold outside. A couple of minutes later I noticed a few flakes of bl...

Re: Well Kaboomed but now slightly rusted hauberk

I have had some luck dipping maille in Future floor polish, a clear acrylic. It works for a bit, though the more you use the armour the more quickly you will wear off the acrylic. Then when you tumble it to polish it you must also remove the old acrylic. Steve I have some of that same stuff that le...
