It all depends on how you want the maille to fit to you. if you want structure use a ring with a smaller AR, if you want all around flexibility a larger AR.

If you do decide to use galv, soak the finished armour in vinegar for a few days. it takes the zinc away and gives it a darkened patina. it polishes well.

Originally, it was a set of oriental armour i once saw visiting japan when i was young. a mixed orientation of oriental arms and armour throughout the ages. here and there i hear of braided wool interlacing the four in one design. i could only assume in a suit with larger rings the wool gave it stru...

Yes the idea is to replace the wool thongs with stainless wire. I am making two sets of this armour, one with a tight weave and one loose. the front of the hauberk will be split and buckles will be used. I am doing the first in Four in one, 14g 1/4"ID mild steel rings (for a period looking mail...

Stanless banded maille, Ideas?

I have decided to construct a hauberk in a "banded" design. But instead of using wool i want to use stainless spring steel. Wondering if anyone has tried it, or if any other ideas spring from this one. :?

Yes, i have had live testing done also with a kendo stick. we tried to stab it through with various weapons, have yet to try the bow, not sure how it would hold up, but im hoping it does well.

i understand what your saying, this became a fun project when i came upon the wire so yes i see the price point. as far as the strength of the rings goes i have no doubt that they will withstand even the most strenuous activity. this was more of a science experiment than anything, as such i added we...

Personally i feel it conforms and fits to the body better than vertically. i usually build my armour historically, however because of the size of the rings and the type of weave it made sense.
