I am wondering how they got cut to begin with....If you properly tape your sword and check it before each practice you shouldn't have any edges of rattan showing..... shaving the sides down to make it look sword like I'm ok with, making it diamond shape eh not so much... as a marshal I would bounce...

Is it because the fingers are made of 18ga? Unless it's because of that, I don't see they wouldn't be SCA legal once they were padded out...

I've made a "waster" styled swords by using 2" rattan, planing it to 1 1/2" and beveling the strking edges to 1 1/4"... As I interprete the rules, this would be a legal weapon.

Depends. Mine is "diamond shaped" but the striking edges are at least .5-.75", skin on rattan. I just have four planed edges defining the flats instead of two. The only "edge" is at an angle of over 135 degrees and is on the "flat", so never thought about it doing...

The Marshal's handbook states in "Weapons Standards" section A line 9 "no part of the weapon shall have sharp edges or protrutions with cross-section of less than 1 1/4" in diameter." section B line 1 "Single handed weapons shall be constructed of rattan or rattan cored...
