there will be no visible foam when i get done with this helm. It will look like period padding but it will be filled with foam instead of cotton.

Sweet...i had figured since it is EVA it will last a lot longer than the blue foam. The only thing that was questionable in my mind is that it is quite a bit more squishy than the blue camp mat and i was afraid that it wouldn't be enough stop the transfer of the hit between the helm and my head.

It is 1/2in padding and i have used it in my gauntlets, but is pretty squishy and i'm unsure if it will be good for my helm. any though...

Re: Suggestions on large shields

I Have recently found that I very much like the defensive aspect in large scale battles and wanted to specialize my gear a bit more in that aspect. Does anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking a Scutum that I found at 48 by 24 but am not completely sure. Thanks in advance for any help! 24"...

i used saddle skirting on my aluminum shield edge, but i would probably use thinner leather on wooden shields. I have heard a lot of people use rawhide on theirs. I personally would never use anything under 4-5oz. I would think anything thinner would wear out pretty quick. I'm no expert though. :?
