chain aventail question
So i currently have a butted chain mail aventail on my current helm found here: m and i am having some slight problems with the new helm. I love the look of it and i want to keep the look, but the weight of it is really putting a strain on my neck. My question is what is the lightest gauge wire i co...

any interest in this axe?
Now that both my little brother and I have been out of school for quite some time and are both out of the house, my parents are starting to sell off the leftovers from our childhood stay. Recently my parents resurected this axe that my brother purchased at some long forgotten school trip. I was aske...

awesome thread! Great idea. I'm relatively new (1 year fighting) and I am totally inspired! Can't wait to get my new kit finished. should be done by this weekend. Yeah, I am sure you are finished . I said that a couple of times myself. But trust me, you'll always find something to tinker/improve up...

finished Hjalmr helm/revisited review
So i previously left a review of the helm i received from Hjalmr and a few people asked for pictures of the finished product. Here is what i ended up with after i forced a patina on it, ground down a weld or two, and added chainmaille. I would once again like to say that I am in love with Hjalmr's h...

i use about 50/50 beeswax/parafin mix. I make a double boiler and let that melt the wax. In the mean time i have my leather in the oven at around 150-175 degrees, just enough that the wax is warm (warm enough that it can still be handled with bare hands). after the wax is melted i remove the wax fro...

yes the edges are flared around the wrist a bit. bigjon i wish i lived a little closer so it wouldn't be such a big deal for me to make it to practices there. As it is now i really have to sweet talk the wife to get out of the house on Sunday afternoon. I will try to make it down in a week or two. y...

new arms. (Thanks to Magnus's pattern help)
Just finished my new arms. Thanks to Magnus for pointing me in the right direction with the elbow cop pattern. Hand cut, hand stitched, and wax hardened. Hope you like em. http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a152/jdreadrocker/168064_1530359260230_1272183665_31170116_5643293_n.jpg http://i11.photobucke...

brass rivets?
anyone have a source for some brass rivets? I recently purchased a helm from Hjalmr and i was considering adding some brass rivets to the helm to make it look riveted, and to dress it up a bit. I was hoping to get them soon but the guy that sells them on ebay will be unable to ship anything till nex...

This thread has been a great teaching tool i am still very new to the SCA and as far as i know and can recollect i have not really committed any fighting sins, but this thread has been a great tutorial and warning on keeping a cool head and keeping the game fun. the helm looks like this for now.

Going to put a maille aventail on it, and possibly spiff it up with some brass rivets, and etching if i can find something i like. Going to try a forced patina to try to make the helm look old and used.

13th century russian designs?
I recently got a new helm and i was contemplating doing some etching on it. The only problem is i have no idea what kind of designs would work for a 13th century persona. i have tried to find some designs by google searching, but so far i can find nothing. The only pics i have found are not close up...
