helmet

Excellent choice of helmet, Thomas!

A close friend of mine is enamoured of the burgonet (especially for Landsknecht).

He's willing to pay for armour, and so I'm always keeping an eye open for inspiration.

How do you plan to approach the comb?

As always, Jiri, stylish and excellent work!

I love opening your Threads to see whatever new creation you have to offer.

When I can, I'd love to purchase a piece of armour from you.
You really are going to attain mastery in plate armouring, if you so choose.

Thanks again,

rivets, rivet placement

This helm is excellent in shape and symmetry! The top-cap, the fine turned edge, the narrow eye-slits, the bulge of the upper crown....all excellent! However, the turned edge on the lip of the cap needs refinement (whether or not the distortion is due to use). Secondly, the rivets look poor, and are...

What do you mean by "curling"? Do you mean wrinkling along the edges? If so, there are two things you should do. First, you should begin dishing or sinking your halves from the outer edge and then spiraling in towards the center. If you dish the edges, they won't wrinkle so much. As you sink the ent...

Judging from the pictures alone, I'd say that these guantlets need a lot of refinement. The half-guants from Illusion Armouring are the same price. These guantlets look very sloppy, from the pictures. It also looks as though some of the edges are sharp or uneven. The rivets seem arbitrarily placed. ...

Last month around the 20th, I received the low-comb morion I had ordered from Mr. Belden in January of 2000. There's a lot of work left to do on that shield blank (to obtain a semi-smooth finish). I've never worked with aluminum, so I'm not sure how hard the material is. From the picture, the blank looks to be in the initial stages of dishing/sinking, although the central raised area is in later stages of ...

I'm confused.

What thickness of metal will be under the leather?

If you use the 12 g, you won't have any problems other than weight.

I'd use 14 g for the panels.

Ah, an excellent thread! And with renowned armourers lending response! In my opinion, putting a metal shell on a sport helm is a little ridiculous. Good morning, all! Mr. Bauldree, it is my belief that a sturdy helmet with some cosmetic and/or aesthetic appeal should begin pricing at no less than $200. round rolls

First, there's nothing better than having the proper tools. If you have a rounded forming stake, this will make the job easier. I use a stump edge and trailer-ball planishing stakes to roll edges. The key to an even edge-roll is patience and uniformity. After marking the material to be rolled, very ...

I hope this post will be taken as constructive criticism. The buckler pictured really needs some work. I'm guessing that a round rivet requires a more common tool and is a more common fastening stock.

The wedge is a more recent introduction, coming about due to demand for greater authenticity.
