Re: 2012...Show us your kits
I built my first helm! http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh269/Tvayumat/th_398810_352960774741944_100000840736265_974214_983172667_n.jpg Your kit looks great, as always. I am really digging the torque(?) around your helm. Is that just for the Deed or do you wear it on a regular basis?. Also, it lo...

Re: Pride in Ugly armour
I would also like to point out that there is a vast difference between a kit that is "ugly" and one that is simply not pretty, or is just plain. Plain is fine. Lots of armour was plain. I like munitions grade. I was about to say this very thing. Plain but authentic is beyond fine, it is thoroughly ...

I have been considering building a mace for sometime. The rules state that a single handed weapon with a head needs 1/2" or progressivley resistant give. I am not sure how the Kong toys accomplish that. They are pretty dense are they not? I can see it occuring in the rollers as they are flanged. Al...

Re: Important review of Icefalcon!
There was a misunderstanding and/or miscommunication in a high dollar transaction. The seller, being an honorable and upstanding man, bit the bullet to make the situation as acceptable to the buyer, who perceived a wrongdoing, as he could. That is what happened. No other opinions or statements are r...

Re: looking for my shield style
Just try not to get taken in by the "this shield style is the only way that works" mentality. Experiment, try things out, and don't exclude anything. There is nothing wrong with a heater for foot combat, and absolutely nothing wrong with a wooden shield. This. There is no right way, there is no per...

Both are quite durable. The real difference is that dome is generally cheaper, and wedge is more period accurate.

In any case, this is a moot point. Did B. Amos reach out to Ice prior to calling him out here? Ice will answer or talk to him I'm fairly certain. A very valid point. Have you contacted Ice about these difficulties directly? I suspect that the restocking fee is a misunderstanding, if only because th...

Re: Are we swordsmen?
While I am not what I would call a "professional soldier" (A title I reserve for 20 year retirees), I still consider myself a soldier, having served in the US Army. In the context of the SCA I consider myself a capable shieldman and line soldier, not specializing in any particular weapon but always ...

Re: Newbie Question: Dark Victory armour?
Well, if you have to buy anything from DV I'd say the body armor items are OK but stay away from the legs and arms. Like the others have said you can make most of that stuff on your own with regular household tools from the garage. The one thing I'd recommend you get is a propane hand torch to “mel...

Don't worry about your Opponent. Just go out to win. Give him the best fight you can and do your best! If you win, Voila! If your opponent, die a GLORIOUS Death! Re: The Mace and SCA combat.
Interesting.
I just built my first mace last night. 24" total length, potato roller head, thrusting tip, balanced about 4.5" down from the head. Been playing around with it a little bit, I'm going to be fighting with it for the first time tomorrow, so we'll see how it works out.

Re: Friend looking to complete a Blankenshield style harness
The problem is that Blankenshield used to argue that his armor *was* historical and that everyone else was getting it wrong due to a worldwide conspiracy to cut the rolled edges off of all of the extant armor, come up with faked Victorian-era documentation for the art and written record, etc, etc.....

Re: Helm lining/aventail combo, need input
The more I think about it the more I realize you're right. Just sewing it in and using an arming cap to soak up sweat is a great solution, and if the hood/cowl becomes gross enough, unlacing and relacing can still be done periodically without too much trouble I would estimate. Do you think that atta...

. . . I decided this would be a cool project and I should give it a shot. . . . 2.) I'm not quite sure how I'm going to construct it to meet all my requirements, in that I would like it to be easily removed for cleaning (and unlacing/relacing it every time would get tedious in a hurry) and feasibly...
