Re: How do you attach your thrusting tips!?!?!

First, I pre-make a bunch of foam tips. These are three layers of foam, taped together with three strips of 3/4" strapping tape, about 6" long. Put the stack of disks in the center of one of the strips of tape. Bring the tape up the sides and over the top. The tape should overlap a little. The disks...

Re: Overlapping washers as armour. Anyone done this?

I made a skirt of fender washer scale a long time ago. I used 2" fender washers that had a 1/4" hole in them with 1/4" truss head rivets and smaller washers to secure the "scales" to a leather backing. Each row was offset by a half washer, so the washer in one row was centered between the washers on...

Re: Using 'Damp Rid' or silica gel to prevent armor rust.

For my table saw, I put a piece of 1/4" plywood on it from the edge of the left extension to the top of the fence (at 13"), and then a tarp gets put over that. I used to have the tarp right on the table, but water (condensation?) got in between them and I got a big rust spot on the cast iron table. ...

West coast baggage train to Pennsic

Every year, a bunch of Westerners get together and rent a large (22' - 26') moving truck and get a couple of volunteers to drive our gear to & from Pennsic. This year, with the rising costs, we need more people to pitch in in order to cover expenses. So, CAIDians & AnTirans, if you can get your gear...

You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to spa... er, Pennsic.

Thanks for all your comments. I found a No.2 so now I'll get some punch and dies. I think this will work out well for quite a long time and finally be able to start assembling the helm I've been working on. I've got a few spares around that fit the #2 ( 1 each of 5/32 & 3/16 dies, 4 - 1/4" punches)...

Re: A question about peening vervelles

I usually stick a nail in the hole, and then I also either put a chunk of lead (I have chunks I cast in tuna cans) or really thick leather between the anvil & the vervelle. The nail keeps the hole from closing and the lead/leather helps prevent the vervelle from getting flattened by the anvil. - Scott

Re: Roper Whitney No.7 Dies

The punch on the #7 is 7/16" diameter, and the punch on the #8 is 8/16" diameter. I think the die on the #7 is 3/4" diameter and the die on the #8 is larger.

For the #7 1/2, the punch is the same as the #8 and the die is the same as the #7, so it is a bastard of the 7 & 8.

ok. I need to know HOW did you connect a weed-eater (or whatever 2-cycle engine) to a blender?!? That is amazing! Inquiring engineers want to know! That was pretty easy, actually. It's a pull start, but it has a priming bulb. One downgrade on this one is that it does not have a centrifugal clutch like the previous one did. That means that the driveshaft will always be spinning when the engine is running. The old one, with the centrifugal clutch, only engaged the driveshaft ab...
