How many kingdoms can you go to in which a Crown Tourny can have 5 Dukes, 5 counts and 40 knights out of a list of 60 fighters with no letters of intent. Ivan, I don't recall any Western Crowns in the past decade or so where the belts outnumbered the unbelts. The most even one that I remember was a...

For war fighting, aluminum scuta are popular and aluminum center grip kites are becoming popular as well.

Even for wood, I like my hand deep in the boss, so I cut the wood with the grip integral, and then add another strip of wood on the back to build it up more.

Yup, when you introduce yourself, tell them what kingdom you are from. If they don't tell you where they are from, ask. If you are from a non-touch-kill to the grill kingdom, you may want to ask them if they are OK with full force face thrusts. In general, if you see someone hanging around the picku...

I, too, think that Friedman is overreacting. First off, as much as I hate "me too" posts, I have to agree with Logan. On the field, we are all fighters. I learned that lesson a long time ago when I first faced a female opponent in a tourney. As my mind was spinning (I've never fought a girl before, ...

Jimena, I had a similar thought when I first saw a tourney of these reqirements a few years ago. Since then, however, Hans created the Ash Leaf as a fighting leaf (to go with the Rose Leaf & Leaf of Merit, the A&S and service leaves), which would qualify as an AoA level fighting award. So, in 40 yea...

Did you ever get my emails asking for quotes for a shirt? I sent you measurements. I was wanting the info for both stainless & titanium and then I would decide which route to take.

It's only 7 holes. Using a drill press isn't as quick as a punch, especially as you would have to clean up the burrs, but it is probably still quicker than welding. I would just get a big whitney punch. (Actually, that is exactly what I did - I picked up a couple off of eBay a while back) - Scott

Here is the tonnage chart for punching holes from roper-whitney. You could always get one of there #8 hand punches. It lists 2.8 tons for punching a 3/16" hole through 3/16" steel, and 3.7 tons for punching a 1/4" hole through 3/16" steel. Strange that your 7 ton press can't do it.... m - Scott

Vely good, glasshopper. Yup, you picked right up on the hint. If they horizontal bars are passing through holes in the vertical center bar, they don't actually have to be welded. The next tip I offer is to weld 1" x 3" (approximate size) tabs on each side of the grill, and then you can rivet it onto...

On this newer grill, did you drill/punch holes in the vertical center flat bar and pass the other round bars through it, or are they separate pieces butt welded to each side of it?

Yup. After making your patterned rivet set, use it to make a bunch of rivets. Heat up the rivets and put them in a holder and then strike the rivet set on them to form the fancy heads. Let them cool slowly if they are ferrous, otherwise, drop them into a bucket of water. No need to harden your rivet...

Or, do it the other way around and carve a positive master. Take a steel round head rivet and file it to what you want. Put it in a vice with the head sticking up. Take a piece of tool steel, say a 1/2" rod, and heat the end up red hot. Then place it over the rivet master and whack the hot rivet set...

I have no problem with two fighters fighting for each other. I would like to try my hand at some wire inlay. I understand the concept, but I would like to hear from some people who have done this who can give some tips and warn about potential pitfalls. Stonekeep, You might want to consider adding a simple brow reinforce to these, perhaps as an add-on option. I think they would really dress them up. I like the idea of everyone fighting everyone. Instead of an inner circle and an outer circle, have two parallel lines. You fight the guy across from you. When the whistle blows, everyone takes a few steps to the right. When you get to the end of your line, you wrap around to the beginning of the ot...
