Aaron, bad thing was I was being a bit more than half serious. There are too many people on the AA that already approve of the way the SCA does combat so really it wouldn't change. Look at all the other threads on changing one thing and people have varying opinions. The one thing we all know and fol...

I bet we would fight with rattan swords, drop to our knees when hit in the leg, give up an arm when hit there, and call a helm and body shot as a kill and fall down...O wait we already do that

Gees guys, I was just posting some neat toys I bought and musing. My what an odd place the archive is. Truly. Can I ask a dumb question? If you might think of switching over to these HPDE swords as a better or more durable simulator, why wouldn't you just go all the way to steel? I think I'm missin...

Now what was the original reason for the post again Brian you did this to see how many times people could derail it, admit it I thought the horizontal strike was common in Flore and in I33? Maybe I am wrong but could have sworn I have seen it in both. Now a stick of rattan does not act like a steel ...

Brian, I actually understood where you were going with this and it had nothing to do with SCA heavy combat. However to answer your question. SCA fencers/rapier fighters and heavy fighters do two totally different styles. Just try to go out on a rapier field and throw a flat snap and see the reaction...

It's simple ergonomics. Put a basket hilted sword and a stand sword in a scabbard, hang them own your side and draw them out. Now think about having to do that in armor under combat conditions and see which you would rather pull when seconds can decided the difference between life and death. Vebrand

I am moving from Sumter, SC. Valdosta is a thriving Metropolis compared to Sumter

One of the main problems I had making fighter praces here is it's a one hour drive one-way and I normally wake up in the mornings at 0430. So the drive back in time to get sleep was an issue.

Heat plays part of the issues in Meridies and humidity plays part of the issue. Another part is the economy. Some of the poorest staest are in the south and going for cheaper armor some times is the easy choice. I have seen guys in Meridies wear upper body armor of a kidney belt, blue paint, leather...

Meridies does not have the corner on Hot but on minimal armor across a Kingdom they might.
