I email Rainald to look at the list. So hopefully he can get back in touch with you. I have seen his work and received his help. He does so really nice stuff. On top of that he is a great guy.

My main stance is shield foot forward, mainly because of my movement and body twists. This allows me to set myself up for my primary attack and defense I am most adjusted to. However I am known to fight sword foot forward often. I have learned to mix things up and attack and defend in both positions...

Short and fighting Inside
I am not what many would call short (unless you are in my household) at 5'9" so this is not really for me. I am training a new woman fighter who recently moved from the Outalnds and has a real short sword and a "in your face" style. Not my normal style. so I am looking for ideas on anything I might ...

Absjorn, You are known for running great tourneys, but I don't know if they will be accepted as regular ways of fighting for several years. As Alaric stated there were more than him that felt counted blows in crown may not be a good thing. As you said crown is the premier fighting event in most King...

I have two center grips and one heater. I have used metal tubing on one and a wooden handle like Duncan's on the other. So far I like the long wooden handle for control and stabilization. Sir Artos of Meridies uses the Roman sidewise grip. Though it does not work for me it seems to work real well fo...

I guess no one has run into Count Radu who fights with a 6ft pole in one hand and a sword in another. By the way Radu is 6'8" and weighs over 300lbs, and is called Moose. I have seen spear and sword used very effective in tourneys in the past. Same as those who do the so called Christian style of up...

To be Truthful I don't think fighting a "style" is the key to success in SCA fighting. Picking the right equipment is more important than fighting a style. Whether to fight centergrip, heater, rectangle or round and finding what is more comfortable is what will help you develop. Don't rush into anyt...

A lot of it has to do with weight. Aluminum shields are great for last a long time and being light. However the light weight allows them to be knocked around a vibrating. Those of us that carry heavy aluminum shields (mine is in the 18-20lb range) have less problems with that. As is Grace Logan said...

How to train for a Tourney
This is a spin off of the thread about how to train for crown. There was some really, really good info. on fighting a tourney. To answer your questions of why people say, "If you press, throw a couple of shots, and don't get anywhere then get out". The key is not getting anywhere. Iy you press and your opponents is off balance or reacting to you as you control the fight then keep it up. You have control of the fight at that...

Fight, fight, and fight some more. Nothing prepares you like hitting every tourney you can. Also do as much pick ups as you can with the best fighters you can find. You need to hone your fighting ability to the best you can be. Then you need the mental preparation. To me this is even more important ...

I have to agree with Asoph and Lubeck on this. Most fighters seem to flinch for fear they are going to get hurt. They have to have faith in their armor that no matter what shot they get hit with they are going to be fine. Drills help in doing this. You have to find a way for each individual to overc...
