I sprayed my maille aventail with Fluid Film back in September 2013, and there is still no rust. Fought in the rain at Agincourt in November 2013.
Still no rust on my maille.

Re: What kind of canvas for shields?
I covered the back of my aluminum shield with a cotton canvas, using contact cement. My elbow armor is wearing a a hole in the canvas, so a leather pad would be good. I covered the front of the shield with leather - I'm guessing it's 3 or 4 oz. - likewise attached with contact cement. The leather ta...

I am tempted to order everything from them, and then I will never have to worry about it again.

Re: Rust Prevention Test v2
Some guy thought he smelled alcohol on my breath when we were fighting, but when I let him smell the Fluid Film on my maille aventail he said, "That's what I was smelling!" I don't think it smells like alcohol. But it certainly has its own peculiar odor.

Re: Are there a domestic (US) source for these buckles?
Both are appropriate for that period. http://www.ukdfd.co.uk/ceejays_site/pages/buckletitlepage.htm If there is no chance of getting "poked" by the pointed buckles, I prefer those because they're really strong and the double ring holds down the end of the strap. Icefalcon has some nice buckles. Did ...

Your welcome.
I figured that since there are only two of you in the area, you could use some help to find more... adversaries? (:
(BTW, I am from Santa Fe and NM is my old turf. But I left the state more than 10 years ago because of the Latino gangs and crime.)

So... I bought helmet #1 in this thread: http://forums.armourarchive.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=170235 with a round-face klappvisor (as shown) but I'm changing to a historical latch, and getting an aventail and SCA grill as well. I've purchased a helmet before from Alexander and I've been happy ...

Real medieval turnshoes' soft supple leather sole allows the wearer to have a good feel for the earth beneath your foot... Ian, Your words ring true. Re: Rust Prevention Test: What Product Resists Rust the Best
has anyone tried a boiling solution of sodium phosphate? Interesting question. We use this solution to prevent flash rust from forming inside of steel scuba tanks when we are washing the inside of the tanks. A quick rinse with a little bit of room-temp sodium phosphate solution prevents flash rust ...

A bit off topic but - a friend of mine is into barefoot running. She states that after a "break in" period for your feet, barefoot running actually strengthens your feet and reduces foot pain. The hard is part is getting through the "break in" period. Apparently the initial phase is rather painful (...

Thanks, I looked through the catalogs of the above merchants and they had either the klappvisor or the grill but not both.
I guess it would ahve to be a custom order.

Actually looking for a round-faced klappvisor bascinet that can be used either an SCA-legal face grill or the round-face visor.
I saw that West Coast Armory makes one but the helm is shaped funny. Know of anyone else who makes such a beast?
Anyone have any experience with such a helmet?
Thanks
