Duke Sigmund the Wingfooted of Ansteorra is the best trainer I ever met. However, I trained with him for years, not just a day. As for the guys that I have never trained with. I would like to work with one of the guys like Lucan or Jade or Paul who have won Crowns over and over. Once I earned my duc...

Russ,

I could probably get Sir Rhys to contact you. He does not appear to post on this forum anymore, but posts a lot on the SCA Chivalry list. He has tonnes of info on archery and armour and he has tonnes of opinion to go with it.

I'm of mixed minds on this. I think Fiore's techniques are great and feel that they are a great supplement to my historical and self defense education. Having been through three of Bob Charron's Fiore seminars, I believe that many of Fiore's plays are much more dangerous than SCA combat. Forget wast...

He is listed as living in Los Angeles, CA and lists his SCA name as Randal Salvatore’. There is no listing for that name in either the Caid or the West online Order of Prescedence. Fight every member of the chivalry that you can. Every event, go up to as many as you have time for and asks them to spar and for a little training. When you finish sparing, ask them for one thing that you should work to improve. Even if you never improve, you should at least get over the fear of fi...

Sir Randall, the Ansteorran Kingdom Earl Marshall has said that a shield hand half-gauntlet is NOT required. The only combatant who might wear a half-gauntlet on both hands would be a crossbow archer.

So far, Kief and Godwin have responded and said that they are not aware of any requirement for a sheild hand half gauntlet, though I could see where that could be handy on a center grip shield. Kief said that there has been no discussion of a shield half-gauntlet on the SCA Marshals list either. I d...

Edric, We just recently went to requiring the half gauntlet on the sword hand. This is the first that I have heard of it on the shield hand. However, I have not been to an event since Coronation, so they could have snuck it in. Let me check on the Ansteorran Chiv list to see if you really need this....

I wear minimum armor. If you see a legal shot, hit me, just as you would anyone else. Don't hit light, because you probably will not get a second chance at it. I use a similar technique to what you describe when I throw a blow. I am pretty much only tightly holding the sword with my two little fingers when an extended reach blow lands. However, what does this blow have to do with using a trigger lanyard?
