I still have fond memories (or not so much) of the broken fingers, wrist damage, carpal tunnel, multiple concussions, dislocated items, dragging down the list through poles, being told I wasn't covered under New Riders coverage when a double unhorsing left me with a 4X4 to the back of the head and ...

Jeffrey, do you recall earlier in this thread when you pretty well jumped down my throat regarding a comment I made that people get hurt jousting ? Most people, including me, consider a bone break that requires pinning to be "hurt". Just sayin' I don't think I "jumped down your throa...

Here's a photo of the armour I made for Arne. It doesn't show the strap and buckle unfortunately. I'll have to look harder for photos. http://www.worldjoust.com/images/n593316207_1363190_8588.jpg It's not really a problem for the cuirass and helm to share buckles. It was done all the time in the 15t...

Kaos/Ben is right. $500 is chicken feed for any Great Bascinet you want to put on your head. I coached a friend of mine with the photos and other material needed to have a custom one done by Steel Mastery. They quoted around $500-600 plus shipping from Ukraine. It took a really long time (they were ...

When you start blasting through rattan tips at speed and getting really solid socket/ferrule strikes, very bad things can happen... Surely, you mean "blasting through -balsa- tips? Even experienced, smart, careful jousters do get injured from time to time. IIRC Jeff (Hedgecock) broke his hand ...

I have not found this to be the case. I've been switching back and forth from acet to propane regularly (like sometimes several times a day) for over 10 years, with no ill effects to my equipment. A quick question, if I may? Why? In other words, on what occasions do you need to use propane and on w...

Also, something in the propane will cause the acetylene hoses to break down over time so the advice that I got was only use hoses and gear specifically designed to run propane unless you are willing to replace the gear more often. An acetylene/oxygen rose bud would work with propane. It just wont get as hot. It may be possible, but I wouldn't recommend it. The fluid dynamics and seals required are different for acet vs propane. I've seen this with my welding tips. The acet ones really don't work with propane. I've been using...

I've examined the Avant in person. Looked at the gauntlets quite carefully and Dave's right, the left is a really good mirror image replica of the right. (Just checked the Trapp Churburg catalog and the right is original) Given the date of 1440 for the Avant, I think it's reasonable to think the ori...

Jousting armour needs to fit and be built correctly. Period. Off the shelf armour can work-- see above. For custom made armour to work well, it also needs to fit and be made correctly. Just because something's custom made or made to order, it doesn't necessarily mean it will fit or be built correctl...

If the ash you have access to is seasoned, which it sounds like it is, that's great and a completely different thing than you can get from a hardwood supplier. Jason, We always use matched weapons in our tournaments, so have never put axe against longsword. Honestly I would NOT recommend it. The axes were always intended to be used in pairs and swords would not be kind to the hafts, nor the heads. Blunted swords would probably not cut up the heads, but the...
