I was always lead to beleive that it cmae fr lift the visor, but you also did it with your right hand. Your weapon hand. To show it was empty. But I could be wrong.

Murdoch, How about classes on what's period and what's not. I definately could use it, after being in the SCA for so long, the lines betwenn period and not period have kinda gone by the way-side. (When you sleep with the dog you get fleas) Not that the SCA is bad, it is great for what it is, but it ...

Actually Jeff. What you are thinking of is modern linen. Have you ever seen the stuff they worked with in period? It's amazing(What little is left) It's called Flax linen. What we in the reenacting community tend to do is go for what looks like poor quality because we think it looks medevial. But th...

Backlash? Nah, I ain't that kinda person. But I did find out a whole lot about linen, cotton, and silk. Seems my wife, the art history grad. took a class on textiles in college. And I have her text book. There is some really cool info here. For example what made cotton so expensive. It naturally grow...

Hey Cet, Can you throw a pic of those helms my way? Oh and one thing, I started making my Gambeson, I was going to use lightweight Canvas for the outer layer (It has been dyed a nice shade of Infantry blue, mind you). I know the cloth is period, though probably expensive. I've seen references of arm...

How are we documenting "Rare". "The Churrburg #13 is a rare piece.." or something like that. What we have to remember here, most of the armor and clothing of that period is lost, either being worn out of existence or reforged into something else. Honestly most of what the "Scholars" know is based on...

I'm looking for someone to make me a set of floating elbows and Vambraces in a late 14th early 15th style. I would like them to be done in 18ga S.S. I'm trying to matchsome kickasp pauldron/spaulders I bought from Massa G.

There lots of documentation on the "Wall Tent" style of tent going back to the Romans, so those would be a viable inexpensive easy to transport option, that's big enough for 2 people, easy (Even though they are on the Civil War books as a 10 man tent.) Another thing we would probably keep in mind. I...

How about the company of St. Elvis? Yes, there really is a st. Elvis, And no I don't think he is the patron saint of Tacky clothing and amphetimines. Just kidding. But how about MacArthurs Irregulars? It was Murdochs idea, and it seems we are putting this thing together as kind of a bunch of straggl...

Elbows and Vambraces
Hi all!,
Basically what I'm looking for is for someone to make me a set of Floating Elbow cops, and a set of Vambraces. They need to be S.S. with some light fluting, and preferably highly polished.
Thanks,
Aaron J

Sorry to sprinkle a little rain on the parade. But, actually from a distance (A very LONG distance) those Elizabethan brimmed riding hats look very similar to "Cowboy hats". Up close they are WAY different. (Kinda like a house cat looks like a lion, same species, totally different animal) But the br...

I've seen documentation (No I don't have it) for wall tents as early as the Romans. So the idea existed, And I have seen pantings with tents that look almost exactly like Civil War wall tents without the end flaps in a few paintings from the 1500's. I personally use a Civil War Wall tent. There are ...

I think gentlemen, we have missed the point here. The color is not to strike fear into others, nor is it to inspir courage. It was simply colored pink to prevent other folks from stealing it. Would you REALLY want to steal a PINK cloak? Brown,Blue, or maybe even a nice shade of green, yes...But Pink...

Okay, Picture this. Your on a field of a hundred or so other folks fighting for your life. One person in particular is attempting to seperate your immortal soul from it's not so immortal container. Hi guys, just want to throw out my two cents. On the topic of why we don't hit below the knee. (This is secondhand, from Duke Sir John the BearKiller) In the early days of meredies, (My kingdom) we allowed the whole leg as a target. This sounds realistic at first but,per his Graces' stories, promptl...

I too am one of the growing horde of Evil mutant Lefties. And I like it. I learned to fight with a kite, but I've recently switched to a heater, and it rocks. I Keep my Left leg pulled back in T-style fighting stance. Shield across my body, with the point of the shield, just on the inside of my Righ...

Modern velvet is not really period, what they called velvet is actually now called velveteen. It can be found in some places quite inexpensively, and is very durable, and I've seen some almost the same thickness as trigger-cloths or light canvas. That might help you a bit, but it sounds like a sweet...
