I got my lead anvil from Wal-Mart. Living in Oregon, Salmon fishing and it's rigging is very common. I bought a 5 lb down rigger weight (for $2 or so) and beat it down into a flatter shape. It works beautifully.

And just to let you know, Hobbits have the ability to be totally silent, not elves.

I have a coat of plates (Wisby style) and they are really quiet. Sure they make some noise, but that is only when I am running. If you are sneaking (aka not running) with a cloth pourpoint or gambeson under it, no one will know you are there.

Here is one example that I found. As you can see, it appears that the aventail is attached somehow under the leather strip. If you look close to the eye of the effigy, you can see that it looks like the aventail almost goes all th...

Good point Bob, it is to be worn under a simple globose breast with simple full arms and legs pointed to the base (mid to late 14th Century English). Thanks everyone for your information. I should be able to put it togeather now that I have an idea of how much. I will just order 6 lbs of Flax Tow an...

Come on, no one here has used the padding method that uses loose batting? How much cotton then... I am just looking for a ball park anwser. This is a fitted patted jack and to give you an idea of how big I am, I am 6'-3" (About 2m) and weigh 160 lbs (72.5 Kg). Tall and skinny is the accurate way to ...

Padding amount...

Howdy everyone!

I was looking into making a padded jack to point my harness to and I was wondering, if I were to stuff this thing with two or batting, how many pounds would I need?

If anyone has some idea or suggestions, they would be much apprecieated.

Wanted: Pic of Sir Hugh Despenser (Tewkesbury Abbey)

I have done a search of the Archive and of google and results were dissapointing. I am looking for a whole shot of him or individual pictures to piece him togeather. The reasoning is so I can put togeather a kit based on his suit of armour. Thus large, detailed pictures would be best. I am also inte...

Where did you get that much fabric. I am interesting in making some pieces and that much would be perfect. Thanks in advance.

When I made my CoP I used a 10 pound offshore fishing weight. I just flattened it out with a big ol hammer and it worked beautifully. I had to flip it ever so often so I had a non-pocked side to work with, but it turned out to be a great anvil.

Not sure when I will be going (if at all.. not much money). What is the schedule of it?

And I agree with Lance in the sence that there is too much fantasy there. I prefer more historical Ren Faires, but I also take what I can get.

The Battle of Crecey

The standard picture that you see when you do a search for the Battle of Crecey is one that I am curious about. I see it everywhere and the question arrises: Is the armour dipicted in the picture accurate for the time? It would seem so, but I'm not entirely sure. The helms seem too advanced for it t...

It is actually a Welsh tradition. The male seeking the female carves her an extravant spoon showing his desire for her hand in marrage. She accecpts and the rest is history.

I recommend the Roy Underhill book as well. Good luck!

I don't know of many sites either, but if you go to www.therionarms.com/links.shtml you can scroll down (it is a long way down) and follow the links to the approiate sites. You can find some info, maybe not what you are looking for, but it is there none the less. Good luck.
