A unpadded polearm is really just a stave or quarterstaff, no matter what you want to call it. No, it isnt. It's all in the use. For it to be a stave, or quarterstaff, BOTH ends would have to have the ability to strike. As it is, one can strike, and both _might_ be able to poke, depending on if the...

I thought that staves and quarterstaffs were not legal in the SCA. I remember reading that in the rules of the list, but I cannot find it now. A unpadded polearm is really just a stave or quarterstaff, no matter what you want to call it. Concerning great swords and unpadded polearms. While I have no...

This ought to really cheese off Peder. In the SCA: Barriers are usually about lower chest high, but above the waist. (For an average sized person.) It is not always required to have the one hand on the barrier and fight single sword. One of the first barrier fights I did was using great sword. m

Re: Why the SCA.

Why should people be they re-enactors, historians or what not who have a drive for history consider doing things in the SCA despite seeing it for all its inacuracies? That is a very narrow and specific question. Here is my own small answer: One, it is a venue of which you can attend while wearing t...
