A unpadded polearm is really just a stave or quarterstaff, no matter what you want to call it. No, it isnt. It's all in the use. For it to be a stave, or quarterstaff, BOTH ends would have to have the ability to strike. As it is, one can strike, and both _might_ be able to poke, depending on if the...

I thought that staves and quarterstaffs were not legal in the SCA. I remember reading that in the rules of the list, but I cannot find it now. A unpadded polearm is really just a stave or quarterstaff, no matter what you want to call it. Concerning great swords and unpadded polearms. While I have no...

Aaron, the vast majority of the respondents missed the question by so much that I actually had to go back and read my own question to see what I asked. It was enlightening even if almost no one addressed my question. Thanks to those who reponded. Well I am not sure I answered your question correctl...

Re: Why the SCA.
Why should people be they re-enactors, historians or what not who have a drive for history consider doing things in the SCA despite seeing it for all its inacuracies? That is a very narrow and specific question. Here is my own small answer: One, it is a venue of which you can attend while wearing t...

Yup. The weather was perfect. Much better than last year. Major upside: My wife and son was able to attend. My knight took a new man at arms. Major downside: Arm was almost broken. Which canceled me out of the rest of the fighting. (Oh goody, Skutai got it on tape so I can watch it again and again. ...

First thank you all for the comments, they are a big help. To answer some of the questions/ comments put to me: Thorald: Second: in the slugfest you both seem blind and just what is your opponent doing with his shield? it is pressed up on your helmet and arm and blinding himself to your sword arm. I...

Fighting comments wanted.
At this past Saphire Joust I was wearing mostly maille, which was working ok for the most part. My biggest problem this past weekend was the vambrace was just not working for me. But that is niether here nor there, Here is a collection of photos of me against Sir Tash of Atlantia. I am in the maille...

Well I just started fighting in mail this past week. Most of the fighting at Atlantia's Spahire joust. Several things I noticed so far. 1. It hurts about the same when I get hit so blow recognition did not seem to be a problem. 2. It did not hurt more then when I was hit in the same spots while wear...

Two things. One: Looks kinda fun. You can kill some one from behind. You can kill someone lying their back on the ground. You can nock someone down with your shield. Two: They look like they would brown their britches if they saw Nissan's group, or the Tuchux, or heck a gaggle of white belts coming ...

I am a tall fat out of shape guy who dislikes the heat. On top of Sir Mord's fruit recommendation I can say having an tight fitting arming cote and helmet liner made of 4 layers of linen with raw cotton as the stuffing keeps me cool in the worst heat and humidity. I never add water to it, sweat is ...

Oddly enough the saying of "Beatings will continue until morale improves" seems strangly appropriate.

Asthmatic fighters?
I have a friend who feels that she cannot fight since she found out that she has asthma. I was wondering if there were any fighters here or anyone you know who has asthma and how they deal with it.
Thanks.
Thanks.
