I'm looking for a live steel group

I'm looking for a live steel group in the chicago land area. I've put in more web searches for this then I can count and I just can't find any. maybe google just doesn't like me. I do SCA combat, and just wanted to see what some of the rebated groups fighting is like. I'm a big fan of starfire sword...

The thing is actually on his shoulder. It's called an ailette. It was used to deflect lances and such away from the neck. More info on it can be found at http://www.arador.com/articles/ailette.html I hope that helps

you are absolutely right SyrRhys. I am glad to see someone making that stand. I wasn't implying that what was being done was right. I was stating that in a way the SCA is part of its own problem. I hope there are more people like you to help clean up the problem. The problem is not solely the on the...

The thing I've noticed about the SCA is that trying to enforce authenticity is almost impossible. The SCA encompasses to large a time frame to be "authentic" in every aspect. You would have never seen a 13th century mongol going toe to toe with a 16th century german in gothic plate. It cant happen. ...

I have to admit it. I have seen a bargrilled kettle helm. I liked it. I know the bargrills piss some people off but it was at the very least relatively unique. I can't remember where i saw it. If someone could point me in the right direction or better yet set me up with a pattern I'd be really appre...

fear not...i'm not asking for a period correct helm only to make the rest out of blue plastic. I have every intention of making my armour fit my persona. I've read just about every topic posted on this board and I've decided I like the idea of period harnesses better then sport armour. I also decide...

needing authentic helmet ideas

Hi, I'm looking for an authentic helmet between 1200 and 1300 that would be acceptable to sca style combat and I'm not too keen on the flat top great helm. I'm looking for something more period then bargrill as well. Anyone got ideas? thanks all! ------------------ I never choose lover or fighter, i...

clackers

This may be a stupid question, but I'm new so please forgive. What is a clacker exactly, in the SCA? How do you make one? I have an idea for a warhammer in progress but right now it's all foam and I forsee a problem with noone calling the hits because of noise conditioning. I've been told a clacker ...

Chicago area armourers

Hello all. I'm looking for a chicago area armourer that would be willing to either take on an apprentice or let me take a gander at their shop so I know what's in store for me when I try to make armour. I'm really interested in armour, firstly as an interest of my own, secondly as an sca armourer. I...

I hadn't thought of dishing the scales. I have been told to try giving them what is basically a center ridge for added strength I was going to try that. My sca persona is most likely going to be european...likely scottish...will that clash to horribly bad or is anyone likely to care. also...the only...

Thanks a lot! Just going to the site answered a lot of questions. I was a little worried about attaching scale to Chainmaille anyway. It seemed that it would get really heavy really fast. Thanks again for the help. I'm just trying to decide the best way to make the scales now...guess it's time to ta...

Thanks. The reason I referred to it as scale mail was I've seen the scales hung on basically a chainmaille shirt, hence scale mail. but Thanks for the help. By the way...would hanging it on chain be the most historically acurate or would leather be?

Scale mail info

I'm looking to find out some info on scale mail. I'm talking about the fish scale type of scale mail. I don't know what it's proper name is but that's what i'm looking for. First, what time frame does it belong too? Second...how much was it in use. I always liked the look of it but I hear its hard t...

looking for armorer

I can only assume this is where I would post this question. I'm looking for an armorer in the Chicagoland area that would be wiling to take on an apprentice. I'm very interested in making armor, swords, and the like but it's something that I should really experience before I go about trying to build...
