Thanks all for the info. I have a big t-stake with hardie hole to hold the stakes. I can also use the leg vise if need be. The balls are not the same side. I'd say a 3" and a 4.5" one. Since I am not planning on doint any tank armor soon, I think I will make tem dog legged like you all suggested. An...

To Dog Leg or not to Dog Leg?

I am making 2 ball stakes. Should I make them dog leg ones instead of straight and what angle do you set it at if doglegged?

Thanks.

Here's is a source for drive/contact wheels!

Been posted on another forum and I thought I'd post it here for people who want to build their own belt sander.

Matt do you have a 15 amps breaker. I have a 20 Amps breaker and I never tripped it.

Also, if you are a hobyist, 2 minutes of welding is actually much more than it sounds.

But I agree that if you ahve the money for it, buy the 220V. And of course with gas not fluxcore.

Well, probably not what you're looking for, but I got the HF 7x10 recently, and so far I'm loving it. I got it primarily to make tooling - extra dies for my whitney punch & stuff like that. I'd really like to know how to thread with it. I've figured out the horrible instructions on setup, but now I...

I have a Miller 135. Runs on 115V. Very nice but for heavier stakes/tools the 220V would be better. It is a tad more expensive though.

Very good machines.

Jason, "Overkill"? Not sure I know what this means. For the bolts, it had been suggested to me when I first built it but there is so little that sticks out and you are never that close to the bench while working on the stakes. It's been 2 or 3 years now and not an incident. And believe me, if someon...

Thanks Capt'n, I asked the Guru the question.

Scarneck, I will wait for the answer but I think that filling the holes is definately a good idea. Although I may go with copper jaws first. I only have a 135 Mig welder and I am not sure it is enough even with preheating.

Leg Vise restoration advice needed

The jaws of my leg vise are in pretty bad shape. Do I grind them flat or is welding some new pieces of steel on there the way to go?

Thanks for your help.

Like Taltosh says, let the shear get up to speed and use your thumb (gloved of course) to gide the shear to the cut. With a little practice, you can be very precise.

Hammerhand, it is a gas forge. I use a small benzomatic burner. Maybe a little underpowered but good for a start.

The inside is made up of two soft firebricks and a think layer of refractory cement.

I will post more results about performance when I get a chance.

Tarquin, thanks for the welding tips. I learn as I go so these come really handy.

For the lathe, I did send you an email in the beginning. I did not get a response so I figured it was either to long or too newbie.
