Thanks for the links Robert.

Hal, have you tried upping your wire speed a little to get rid of the ball thingies when you are Mig welding? I know I get some when wire speed is too low.

Hijack away Hal. No Problemo. :)

Insulation is two soft firebricks with a thin layer on refractory cement. Seems to work pretty good. Gotta play with the openings a little and torch placement. I'll post updates.

Maeglin, I tested it today with some 3/8 rod. I can get it orange close to straw. Sorry, not very good about the steel colors yet, just started. I will get more precise specs when I can. Destichado, I started with this torch to see if the forging but bites. I will upgrade if it does but this really ...

Any ventilation/electrical pros around here?

I want to set up a ventilation system in my shop. Basically a fan to get rid of the dust of the buffer and belt sander as well as an exhaust fan for welding. I would like it to be set up so that the fan turns on when the power tool is used and also can be manually turned on for welding. I am clueles...

Arent the keyways overkill. I made mines with 2 set screw and they hold on to the shaft just fine for buffing purposes.

I made a bicorn with 2" with 3/16" wall square tubing for the base and it is as solid as you need it to be. You would not know the difference. For smaller stakes I agree with the folks here.

Jim, colleges around here dont offer welding classes or even shop. It would have to be a trade school and this is not possible.

I am not sure what you mean about testing my welds?

I am most un-skilled when it comes to welding. I never took any courses. Nothing I can take close enough to me. :( I learn by trial and error.

David, there is about 24" from top to bottom. The belt is 2" large. I dont think you'd need 4". 2X72 belts seems to be the preferred for most applications, either armouring or knifemaking.
