The tops are just covers for the more historic look, they have another cop black to use underneeth them. (not shown)

They are planished, and well work hardened to give a spring like effect.

Most steel patterns will work for leather except the heavy dish type. A mild dish on leather is best done wet, but since your a leather worker I'm sure you know that but others may not.

The Andy Ward pattern is a mild variant of this one, except he rounded the tip, and the baseof the hand cutting off the rivet placement with removing the wrist plate, and adding leather in replacement of the wrist plate.

Any rivet should work, as for decorative rivets, I make them on a limited bases for now but I am training my son to do them to.

Well I'm letting go another secret, the buzz plate. In the earlier days to stop ringing in a helm we would put a strip of steel inside of the helm with 3 slightly loose rivets, to counter the vibrations of the helm. When correcting the ringing in Sir Vitus's helm, I did something a little different....

"Properly" fitted greaves, ( I mean to match every curve to the point, you will forget your even wearing them ). I also mean no welds. 'Now' do them in stainless this way.
