IMO, the images above are much closer to period living/experimental archeology than Norstead ever was. LOL, that is seriously the funniest thing I've read in years. If for no other reason then most of our medieval ancestors weren't generally stupid enough to spend time in tents in the dead of winter.

A Pas d'Armes needs two things, a Pas and Armes. Or to be more anglish. You need a passage and weapons. The quintessential Pas that most everyone here will recognize is the scene with the Black Knight in Monty Python's Search For the Holy Grail. Basically a group of defenders will be at x place from...

The English isn't really any good because you would never translate anything out of latin that way. It would be something more like, Victory is hardly nothing. or Victory does not lack value or something. Tell her to stick her nose in the air and come up with a list of 10 snobby sounding ways to say...

So - just to clarify - we really are talking about - "The Tilt" or "Joust of Peace" in the context of modern competitive jousting. Very astute. Which is one of the reasons why doing historical jousting before 1420ish is unlikely to happen because of the introduction of the tilt....

Brent is probably thinking of rennhuts, which are a different type of specialized 16th c sallet for a very specific type of german joust. Yes that sounds right. I think this is partially terminology issue. A brigandine is a specific set of things being covered on the outside is one of those. There are armours similar to it that have plates on the outside or connected differently.
