Well, I found a pic of what kind of shield I had in mind, but they call it the "El Cid" shield. Now I know it has a more common name, and anybody that knows what it is called please let me know. The link is:

what kind of shield is this called?
I've seen this particular shield a couple of times, but I don't know what it's called. It kinda looks like those interstate signs, and well, kinda looks like this: /\ /\ /\ | \____/ \____/ | | | | | | | | | | | \ / \ / \ / \ / \________/ It is more rounded, but you get the idea- so what is it called...

Ok, so to harden copper alloy is to heat it up, then let it air cool. W/O the use of a forge, (or even a decent propane torch), would a common oven work? Any ideas of the temps/times one would use and go about?
