The confusion is in your first post where you state the maile was there to "...allow for secure gripping of an opponent's blade."

I think that techniques where I grip my own blade might be fun, personally, with a regular gauntlet.

My close and armet are both over 10 pounds. I've never been dazed by ANY shot in either of them. I like that. I like them because their easier to get in and out of than chin strap helms.

It depends on how good you are at padding. Heck, I've seen people use a bevor front with a c-spine protecting back like a "normal" gorget in conjunction with a bar grill bascinet. So yea, "depends."

I just wanted to say, Master Geoffrey's site sells pretty inexpensive and nice gorgets. He even says that it's a high volume, low profit item, but he just wants people to be safe. The price on them is testiment to the fact that he's not making much on them. I was fighting at Estrella in my new gorge...
