It is the consumer and the armourers who lose out on these imports. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2964601401&ssPageName=MERC_VI Having had my hands on one of these, I can almost gaurantee that you will break your freaking nose. I have mentioned this to the owner of Kingslance ma...

Welcome. You might want to take a look over at: www.anvilfire.com They are more inline with forge work, I believe. However, there is a significant amount of knowledge here and I am sure that numerous folks can assist you in your endeavor. Cap'n Atli works with hot metal, I believe. As does Krag.... ...

Check in Missouri. There are a few down there, closer to you, I am sure. Otherwise, keep in touch with Gruber. The Midwest Armourer's Guild will be meeting quarterly (fingers crossed). We just had a meeting with about 40 people present. I will be back in action next spring... moving this weekend and...

Here is an exceptional reproduction of a few barbutes: http://www.lightlink.com/armory/current.html Please keep in mind that 98+% of what is out there as "authentic" is most likely crap. Especially if it is sitting along side fantasy or movie weapons/armour. There is a recent flooding of medieval-es...

Wisby is well worth the price. You can get it for around $55.00, I believe (as mentioned above). It should be a cornerstone for any 14th century fanatic. I could come up with a handful more, the following is a list of books that I think are essential. Most are readily available: Abiti e Fogge Civili...

Problem with spuntops: - Not many heads are perfectly round. - They don't fit for crap without severe amounts of blue foam padding. - They are often heavier than their welded conical counterparts. - they are not even remotely medievalish. They are but-assed fucking ugly. People aren't wearing freon ...

I also suggest using .025" 1050. It will be MORE than sufficient in a tempered state for what you need. 1095 will only cause unnecessary heartache, pain and cost. Get 1050 annealed. Cut, shape, punch. Then send it out to a heat treat facility to have them tempered. That is your best bet, I would thi...

I suggest working on your compound curves. Other than a knee cop, elbow cop and helm, I did not see a single complex shape. There were only a few elements of armour that were truly flat/curved. Just about everything had a complex curve to it. Take a look at pictures of the armour from Churburg or tr...

I made one of similar design and here are a couple of learnings: - Recess the bolts/nuts into the board. It REALLY sucks to smack your knees/legs on them. - Apply glue in between the boards and it will minimize having to tightent the bolts, as well as make it a bit heavier/sturdier. - Use lock-tite ...
