The "Gothic Revival" style of decorating came in the wake of the immense popularity of Sir Walter Scott's novels. That armour was made as home decor.
Lucky people still find amazing pieces of Gothic Revival furniture at flea markets and antique malls- looks amazing in your tent.

My opinion? I think that a Luther helmet is always worth the wait. I have seen quite a few of his pieces and they are all exceptional. Ask to be put on the waiting list, and when the time comes to pay him- do so with glee. Then, put the whole thing out of your mind for a year. Simply forget about it...

The more I understand the authentic, medieval style of combat- the more that florentine seems very hard for me to accept as a possible period style. When holding two crossguard swords it would be very difficult to grasp weapons or "show them the gate"- knock people on their backside. Only the larges...

When I am at the Pas or doing pick-ups I prefer to keep at least three shields close by. This way, I can mirror the spirit of my opponents. When I am roaming the pick-up fields I almost always start out with a 22x22 heater. It really amazes me how many people who are hunting for an easy victory will...

Transitional Armour is popular because the styles that preceed it and follow it have some serious drawbacks. If you want to wear an accurate harness from 1000-1300, you will be forced to wear mail. Only SoFC and Erik D. Schmid sell mail armour that is reasonable in weight and that will take the abus...

Although Gwen and I have had disagreements before, I absolutely adore her work. Her garb is amazingly comfortable, and the arming points that her and Jeff sell are first rate as well. I recommend them highly, as they process orders amazingly fast. When you go to Pennsic, drop by and spend some money...

Roderick- I don't think you should be too particular about this right now. Once your gear is on, nobody is going to notice the sweats- and you will easily pass the "ten foot rule". I am going to fight in linen chausses and braies at Pennsic. Be warned- if you are going to fight in Black Swan braies,...

Sell it so you can get a quality fencing sword. Don't keep a toy you can't play with anymore. I used to have a 1927 Gibson arch-top guitar but playing it made my shoulder hurt so much I considered giving up fighting. I loved that guitar but why keep it if I can't play it? Now somebody else has it, a...

Phillipe, I have tried to paint my fiberglass lances many times and the paint actually gets trashed faster than if you just spiral wrap the thing in two colors of duct tape. I just faced up to the fact that I was going to have to re-tape my 9ft spears before every major event. It's less trouble than...

Well I thought I was gonna lose my mind but I did it. Now there is a linen liner inside my Al Baudree onion top instead of horrible blue foam. God be praised!!
