I've always wondered why, in the SCA, we are not allowed butt spikes on swords. That would make a most effective extreme close-in weapon. An added advantage is the counterweight the butt spike provides, making a (possibly) otherwise tip heavy sword more neutrally balanced. In all honesty, I'd rather...

I fight with a 24" round strapped like a heater (which side's up??). Great success? No, not really but then again I've not been fighting all that long. I'm getting much better though. I still lose bouts to the 'belts' but I'm not dragging the bottom of the list amongst the unbelts. I believe that it...

Pain is often the best teacher. That's how I learned what not to do. If it hurts, don't do it. I'm not really familiar with your particular style but, as in all martial arts, there must be a point where a newbie/"reluctant learner" gets to feel the error of their ways. If you are voluntarily teachin...

Friend of mine uses bicycle inner tube for handle wrapping. Tried his stick a few weeks ago and the stiction and shock absorbtion qualities are great. As far as shaping, I haven't felt the need but I've got fairly big hands. I can feel when the sword isn't aligned right, guess I get used to the ratt...

Why not just fight 2-stick, use 2 scabbards, and ditch the shield entirely. Or, use a buckler, which is smaller than most shields. No 2 styles have the same moves, nor do 2 fighters have the same style. A squire who has learned faithfully from his knight will fight a style similar to, but not exactly like, his knight. Just because the people you're learning from are good at one thing doesn't mean you'll be good at it too. Given...
