I need a source for cast steel rock crusher balls. I have a couple of tools I want to make and have heard these are good tough steel.

wanted: 3" - 4" steel balls

Any one have a good source for 3" - 4" steel balls? I'd prefer cast steel in a medium to high carbon range. I'm making a set of specialty tooling and only need a few.

Very nice. I like the patina and the rough from the hammer look.

I've had a Kalamazoo 2"x 48" belt sander for 15 years. I bought it because it was compact and my shop at the time was small. It has performed beyond my expectations and still does today. It has a 3/4 hp Baldor motor and is available for under $300.

I've heard Global Effects has a great shop, count me in if it's there. I know there is interest in the Bay Area; we should think about something local. Mitch and I were talking about visiting local shops. Any thoughts?

I'm currently taking orders, but will keep the backlog under 6 months.

I'm just finishing up a barbuta too. I wanted a crease in the back so I used a 2-piece side/back plate. (Used a 2-piece skull pattern as well.) I worked it cold first with a cross peen; vertical on the inside to start the flare and horizontal on the outside to curve it in. Then I worked it in sectio...

Yes, 304 stainless is weldable. With TIG I use 308 or 316 rod and argon gas. With MIG you'll get better results with 75/25 (CO2/argon) mixed gas. A tip with MIGing stainless, you have to move faster than welding mild steel. There's also more distortion with stainless; use lots of tacks before the fi...

I agree with Dan; a properly fitted Churburg works really well. I've made several in various sizes and the protection is great.
