Uilleag - Prehaps I should have bought 3/16", I like stuff to last. I'm using Kydex - T though. Do you see a difference bewteen working ABS and Kydex - T? Are you using an oven to thermal form? Have you ever heated/formed something twice and had any brittleness? I wanted to reheat a formed peic...

I want to protect myself, there's no way in hell I'd not use chest protection. I hear what you're saying. I'm trying to get a chest piece together for practice (ASAP), authorization and maybe Pennsic. I have a 16 gauge SS BP in the works, but I have 5 other projects on the table and most likely will...

Your Grace;
The only link I could find on your site for in stock items was for helms. Could you post the link in stock for arms here please?
Also, do you have detailed pictures of your loose flat stainless rings and rivets?
Thanks,

Losthelm - I put a post on TRL, thanks. The rings are 16 gauge 5/16 ID SS. The Brazing metal is 56% sivler and the joints look fairly smooth. I was thinking to get a media that was harder than the silver but softer than the SS. I've heard of walnut being used. I have a commerical barrel tumbler abou...

welded chain tumbling media
Hey guys, I want to tumble the aventail that I'm welding to clean up the blackness and roughness at the joints. It's 16 guage stainless square wire from the Ring lord. I was thinking white sand from home depot because it's finer than biege sand and fairly cheap. What do you think? Will I wear off th...

I only looked once and checked the first place to come to mind. I remembered Reed plastics from way back. Now called Piedmont plastics eveidently. The guy there said he had some black 4X8's in stock and could order stuff. Didn't check else where. http://www.piedmontplastics.com/html/prodname-KYDEX_T...

KC 100 or K T
So I just talked to a place local that stocks this stuff in 0.125 and he was asking me if I was interested in the KD 100 or the KD thermalforming type. He mentioned that the KD 100 was more resilent to impact. Hrm ... I also noticed that a lot of Kydex on Ebay is of the T type. Friends have told me ...

0.0575" SS? SCA?
I was given a gift of some rather large pieces of SS sheet. Very nice! I thought it was 0.0625", calipers are telling me more like 0.058". I was hoping to make SCA knees and a bunch of stuff. I know it's close, but is this material still a good idea for heavy combat?

Kydex forming
I'm in the process of making a 2 piece 16 gauge SS breast plate for SCA fighting. However, it's gonna take a while and I want to start fighting ASAP. I was thinking of whiping up something in Kydex but have never worked the stuff. I noticed there are 25 types of Kydex. So, I deduce that you guys are...

Hey!
Adam,
I just started legs with the same exact style in mind! Awesome! They look great. I'm doing stainless steel though. Could you post a picture of the backside? I'm figuring out how to clam shell the knee lames.

poleyns and knee pad fitting questions
I’m putting together all steel legs with articulated knees for SCA fighting, which I’ve just gotten into. I’m looking for recommendations for commercial knee pads that I can wear under my legs, over my pants. Anyone got a good solution they want to share? How should the poleyns fit the circumf...

Brazing butted mail
Hey! I’m putting together a stainless aventail. I wanted to use my cobra torch to weld the links together but I was thinking it might be easier to braze the links since I can solder very well. From what I understand brazing is pretty strong compared to welding. The spot/torch welded links I see on...

Are your bits fresh and sharp? Sounds like maybe you need a new bit. Take a close look at the end flutes. You should be using high speed steel (HSS) bits that are sharp. You could try a coated bit, like TiN (Titanium Nitride) if you want to try drill faster. You don't need to go very fast, but use s...

I’m putting together an SCA bascinet. One problem I have with my living history padded coif and sallet is I can’t hear very well during combat. I want to avoid this with my bascinet. I'm considering making two small, ear level decorative punched or drilled/filed holes. Maybe even cut out some fo...

I took a look at Master Knuut's site. It seems that he uses a cylinder around the neck then a cone for the shoulders. I think this is the way to go and I believe what Matt was also saying.

looking for the true aventail
Hey guys, I need to put together an aventail for my SCA bascinet. Life’s good, eh? There’s an aventail pattern here on the Archive, but it has square regions, and doesn’t look good to me. Web searches were less than satisfying. What was done historically? Can anyone walk me through the pattern...

Not that I have the exact answers for you but: I think this is one of the best books out there, it covers a great deal and is an easy read. m A lot of new torches have flash back arrestors and check vales installed in the torch already.
